Who Will Win? Golden Globes Leaves LGBT Community in Anticipation
The 73rd annual Golden Globe Awards this evening could mark another historic opportunity for the LGBT community in Hollywood.
The film Carol, which is about a same-sex couple in the 1950s, was nominated for five awards, including Best Motion Picture. The film’s two stars, Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara, and director Todd Haynes, are all nominated.
Eddie Redmayne and Alicia Vikander were nominated for the roles in The Danish Girl. The film is about Danish painters Lili Elbe and Gerda Wegener.
Openly lesbian actress Lily Tomlin is up for two awards, one for the hit Netflix show Grace and Frankie and the other for the film Grandma.
Transparent received three nominations, including Best Television Series –Musical or Comedy and actor Jeffrey Tambor for Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series-Musical or Comedy. Orange is the New Black was also nominated for Best Television Series –Musical or Comedy.
HRC supporters, including Bryan Cranston, Jamie Lee Curtis, Alan Cumming and Lady Gaga, were also nominated for their work.
