Out actors Andrew Rannells (Girls) and Noah Galvin (The Real O’Neals) presented Cosmopolitan with the GLAAD Media Award in Outstanding Magazine Overall Coverage at the 27th Annual GLAAD Media Awards at New York City’s Waldorf Astoria on Saturday night. 

In 2015, Cosmopolitan ran a story about two Missouri women who were fired from their Catholic high school jobs after they became engaged. It also featured an essay by Marizol Leyva, the sister of Orange Is the New Black star Selenis Leyva, who shared her experiences as a transgender Latina. With LGBT inclusion found across its pages — from health tips and love advice columns to feature stories — the magazine has not only educated audiences about LGBT issues, but also sent a message of inspiration to its LGBT readers.

Jennifer Lawrence presented the Excellence in Media Award to Robert De Niro. Lee Daniels presented the Ally Award to Mariah Carey. Laverne Cox hosted the event. Bebe Rexha performed, as did actor and singer Alex Newell, and Fun Home’s Kally Duling and Emily Skeggs. The GLAAD Media Awards recognize and honor media for their fair, accurate and inclusive representations of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community and the issues that affect their lives. They also fund GLAAD’s work to amplify stories from the LGBT community that build support for equality and acceptance.
