Variety of Businesses Celebrate Same-Sex Couples this Holiday Season

Each year, we see more and more LGBT families, couples and youth in commercials and ads. In this first holiday season since the historic Supreme Court decision in favor of nationwide marriage equality, many companies are featuring same-sex couples in their end of year campaigns.

Nordstrom released an ad featuring a same-sex couple kissing. “Home is the heart of the holiday season,” Nordstrom explained on YouTube.  The ad has almost one million views.

The retailer received a 100 on HRC’s 2016 Corporate Equality Index (CEI), which is the national benchmarking tool on corporate policies and practices pertinent to LGBT employees.

As part of Allstate Insurance’s “Here’s to Firsts” series, the company featured a same-sex couple in its newest ad.  In the emotional ad, two dads reflect on the past year, including adopting their daughter, Nora. Allstate received an 85 on this year’s CEI.

MassMutual, another insurance group that received a 100 on the 2016 CEI, released a video last month featuring several same-sex couples talking about finally being able to get married.

“We help all people secure their future and protect the ones they love. Who will you #VowToProtect?,” MassMutual wrote.

Kohl’s, which received a 60 on the 2016 CEI, up from 15 points last year, also highlighted a same-sex couple in a holiday commercial. “The best part of the holidays? Being together with family and friends of course!,” Kohl’s explained.

These companies are just a few this year that highlighted the LGBT community. Campbell’s, Johnson & Johnson, Tiffany & Co. and Honey Maid all released LGBT-inclusive ads this year.
