Trump Tweet: Transgender People Will Not Be Allowed in Military ‘in Any Capacity’
Donald Trump tweeted on Wednesday morning that transgender people will not be allowed to serve in the U.S. military in any capacity due to the disruption and costs involved.
The announcement reverses policy put in place by President Obama whose administration had set July 1 as the deadline to begin enlisting transgender troops.
It’s also the most direct attack on LGBTQ people Trump has made since becoming president.
Tweeted Trump:
After consultation with my Generals and military experts, please be advised that the United States Government will not accept or allow……….Transgender individuals to serve in any capacity in the U.S. Military. Our military must be focused on decisive and overwhelming………victory and cannot be burdened with the tremendous medical costs and disruption that transgender in the military would entail. Thank you
