This DIY book case hides an awesome secret
Who doesn’t dream of a secret room in their home, safely tucked away from prying eyes and annoying co-habitants?
Reddit user BaconJacobs has made this dream come true (and shared it with the internet) by converting his home’s former coal chute room into a smoking room – hidden behind a bookcase.
The secret door and frame were built from poplar, with the crafty user taking to laser-cutting the wood for the frame to ensure everything fit perfectly.
Clicking the hidden latch opens the door to a small, yet cozy room dominated by dark woods, deep red walls – the two armchairs, taking pride of place, further add to the slightly gloomy, saloon/pub-like atmosphere.
Little details make the project feel lived-in and warm: an electric lamp, looking like an oil lamp, a replica of the idol from Indiana Jones: Raiders of the Lost Ark and other small accessories.
An electric fireplace, which can be used to run a fake fire as well as heat the room, gives the room the final touches; on its mantle, a wooden ship and antlers add to the slightly rustic atmosphere.
The only thing we don’t know is whether the door creaks or not. We sure hope it does.
