The GLAAD Wrap: Trailer for ‘Dolly Parton’s Heartstrings;’ HBO’s new drag series ‘We’re Here’ annnounced; new music from Frank Ocean, Rufus Wainwright, and more!

Every week, The GLAAD Wrap brings you LGBTQ-related entertainment news highlights, fresh stuff to watch out for, and fun diversions to help you kick off the weekend.

1) Out actress and Ariana DeBose has been cast in Ryan Murphy’s Netflix adaptation of musical The Prom. The musical is the story of Emma, who’s school won’t let her take her girlfriend, Alyssa to prom, and is aided by Broadway actors. DeBose will play the role of Alyssa. tick tick… BOOM, another musical getting a Netflix adaptation directed by Lin Manuel Miranda, has announced its cast, which includes out actor Robin de Jesus, along with Andrew Garfield, Vanessa Hudgens, and Alexandra Shipp.

2) In more casting news, out actress Ruby Rose has been cast alongside Jamie Bell in Mexican animated feature Cranston Academy: Monster Zone. Out actress Aubrey Plaza has been cast opposite Michael Caine in the upcoming film Best Sellers. In more news, out writer and director Nahnatchka Khan will be writing and directing Showboat for Endeavor Content and Picturestart. The comedy follows performers on a cruise ship. Out actress Bella Thorne will be making her feature directorial debut for an untitled thriller, in which she will also play a supporting role.

3) HBO has ordered unscripted series “We’re Here” which stars Drag Race alums Shangela, Bob the Drag Queen and Eureka O’Hara, as they travel to small towns across America and get residence ready for their own drag shows. It will debut this spring. In more TV news, the trailer for Dolly Parton’s Heartstrings was released on Tuesday. The episode based on the songs “Two Doors Down” stars out actors Andy Mientus and Michael Willett. The show premiers November 22 on Netlfix; watch the trailer below.

4) Eastsiders, a web series surrounding several queer people on the East Side of Los Angeles, will air its fourth and final season on Netflix on December 1. The show, which moved to Netflix after a passionate fan campaign, also added several new LGBTQ actors to its cast including Hailee Sahar, Jake Choi, Tom Lenk and more. In more TV news, Superstore has been picked up for a 22 episode order for its current fifth season. Brooklyn Nine-Nine announced their seventh season will premiere February 6 on NBC.

5) Out actress Kate McKinnon has been cast in new series Joe Exotic, based on the podcast of the same name. McKinnon will portray Carol, a big cat enthusiast who has a rivalry with exotic animal lover Joe “Exotic” Shreibvogel. In more TV news, out comedian Brendan Scannell and writing partner Amy Reed have sold pilot FLOUIS to ABC. The show revolves around a woman who has been living off sugar daddies in Las Vegas, but has to leave with her codependent son, Louis, to her hometown of Basic, Indiana.

6) Out comedian and talk show host Ellen DeGeneres will be honored with the second annual Carol Burnett Award at the Golden Globes in January. The award goes to someone who has made outstanding contributions to the television medium, and they are honoring DeGeneres for her work in front of an behind the camera. The Golden Globes will air January 5, 2020. Out actress and model Cara Delevigne has been slated to hose a practical prank show for upcoming short form streaming service Quibi.

7) Kacey Musgraves has announced a Christmas special coming to Amazon on November 29. The special will be narrated by out actor Dan Levy and will includes several guest performances including out singer Troye Sivan. CBS also announced that their annual Home for the Holidays special will air December 22, and include Adam Lambert among other stars.

8) Drag star Pabllo Vittar released a new album 111 1, which is sung in English, Spanish, and Portuguese; listen to the album here. Out singer and rapper Frank Ocean has released a new song “In My Room,” which can be listened to here.

9) Out singer Rufus Wainwright released a song and music video for “Trouble in Paradise,” his first single off his upcoming album. Listen to the song here, and watch the video below. 10) Feature film The Surrogate is currently being funding for post-production. The film follows a woman who volunteers to be the surrogate for a gay couple, but a result into the pregnancy challenges the relationship between the friends.
