The GLAAD Wrap: Hulu orders 'Runaways' pilot, first 'Doubt' trailer, and more!

Every week, The GLAAD Wrap brings you LGBT-related entertainment news highlights, fresh stuff to watch out for, and fun diversions to help you kick off the weekend.
1) The short drama film Spa Night will premiere in select theaters this week. The film, which debuted at Sundance in January, follows a young Korean-American teen who struggles to reconcile his obligations to his struggling family with his desires. Check out the trailer below.
2) Hulu has ordered a pilot for an adaptation of Marvel’s Runaways with an eye towards a possible series pickup. The drama, about a group of teenagers who unite to fight the criminal organization their parents have joined, features lesbian superhero, Karolina Dean, and her shape-shifting partner, Xavin. Also in the works, Transparent creator Jill Soloway will once again be teaming with Amazon for a half-hour musical comedy series. USA has renewed Mr. Robot for a third season for 2017. Out actress Anna Paquin will star in the Netflix’s miniseries Alias Grace, inspired by the true story of convicted murderer Grace Marks. In other TV news, Participant Media has announced that cable channel Pivot will go off-air later this year. The network, which airs the GLAAD Media Award-nominated dramedy Please Like Me, has not yet made any announcements about the future of their series.
3) On a lighter note, CBS’ upcoming drama series, Doubt, released a trailer today for its midseason premiere. The series, which centers on a boutique law firm where a top attorney begins to fall for one of her clients, stars Laverne Cox as Ivy League-educated attorney Cameron. Her character is the first transgender series regular character on broadcast TV played by a trans actor. Check out the trailer below.
4) It has been recently confirmed that out musician and actress Lady Gaga will be co-starring alongside Bradley Cooper in the new A Star is Born remake. The news comes just after Gaga revealed that she will be releasing a new single this coming September titled “Perfect Illusion.” In other casting news, Todrick Hall has landed a role as Lola in Broadway’s Kinky Boots. 5) Tegan and Sara paired up with BoJack Horseman artist Lisa Hanawalt on their latest music video release for “Hang On to the Night.” Adam Lambert features on the single “Broken” from EDM group Tritonal, the track is available on iTunes for purchase.
6) Out comedian Rhea Butcher also released her comedy album today, titled Butcher. The album was recorded live during a show in Oregon earlier this year and is available for purchase here, on Kill Rock Stars. Speaking of comedy, The Second City Hollywood is calling all performers of diverse backgrounds to come and vocalize their art at the first annual LA Diversity in Comedy Festival. The festival will explore issues across race, gender, disability, sexual orientation, and gender identity through performances and various workshops. 7) Three filmmakers have launched a crowdfunding campaign in the hopes of producing the first queer Finish romantic drama. The film, titled A Moment in the Reeds, follows two men from different backgrounds on the romance they find themselves involved in when one returns home for the summer.
