Every week, the GLAAD Wrap brings you LGBTQ-related entertainment news highlights, fresh stuff to watch out for, and fun diversions to help you kick off the weekend!

1) American Heretics: The Politics of the Gospel, which depicts the first liberal church in Oklahoma, was released last week and is currently rolling out in more cities. In the documentary, defiant Oklahomans rise up against fundamentalist doctrine. The Oklahomans, labeled as “heretics,” redefine modern Christianity in their fight to protect minorities, including the LGBTQ community. 2) The trailer for gay romance film End of the Century (Fin de siglo) has been released. The debut film debut by Argentinian director Lucio Castro follows the love story of two gay men across space and time, and is a meditation on the role of technology, missed connections, and fate in modern-day relationships. You can catch the film this tonight at Outfest Los Angeles, or when it opens on August 16 at the IFC Center in NYC and September 20 at the Nuart Theatre in Los Angeles. Watch the trailer below.

3) A clip has been released from documentary Queering the Script, which will also screen at Outfest this Saturday. The clip shows Pose and American Horror Story actress Angelica Ross talking about the power of representation. The documentary also features GLAAD’s Megan Townsend. Watch the clip below. In other film news, out actress Dot-Marie Jones has been cast as “Big Sexy” in indie comedy Golden Arm, directed by Maureen Bharoocha.

4) Netflix has released the trailer for the third season of comedy Dear White People, from out creator Justin Simien, and featuring gay character Lionel. They also announced guest stars upcoming season of, which include transgender actress Laverne Cox, Blair Underwood, Flavor Flav, Yvette Nicole Brown, and Simien himself. The third volume is due to return on August 2^nd. 5) Showtime has given a series commitment to as-of-yet untitled musical drama series, executive-produced by out songwriter Benj Pasek, his collaborator Justin Paul, and musician Alicia Keys. In other TV news, out Emmy-nominated actor Ben Whishaw has been cast in the upcoming fourth season of acclaimed FX drama Fargo. Whishaw will be playing Rabbi Milligan and will be joined by Chris Rock, Jack Huston, and more. 

6) Out musician Elton John has an original song on the The Lion King soundtrack, which was released digitally July 11^th and is available on CD today! The soundtrack also features the a new version of “Hakuna Matata” with out actor Billy Eichner, Seth Rogen, JD McCrary, and Donald Glover. 7) In other music news, out singer Hayley Kiyoko has released a dance-filled music video inspired by the teenage witches of The Craft and created an LA pop-up experience for her new single “I Wish.” Watch the new video below, which she also directed. Musician Ingrid Michaelson has released animated lyric videos for all tracks on her Stranger Things-inspired album Stranger Songs. The videos include graphic novel-style animation and queer storylines by out queer artists like Jen Bartel (“Young in Love”), Kate Leth (“Hey Kid”), and Kevin Wada (“Missing You”).

9) Out musician Christine and the Queens and Charli XCX have released the video for their new single, “Gone,” which you can watch here. Blood Orange has released a music video set in a Black, queer, 18^th century France for his new song, “Benzo,” off his most recent mixtape Angel’s Pulse, which you can stream here. 10) In more music news, out musicians Felix Jaehn and Calum Scott released a video for their song “Love On Myself,” which you can watch below. Out musician St. Vincent appears in the new video for “Half Love,” the single by group Red Hearse (Jack Antonoff’s newest project with Sam Dew and Sounwave). The rock band PVRIS, led by out lead-singer Lynn Gunn, have been signed to Warner Records/Reprise and will be touring in the U.S. this fall. Watch the video for their new single “Death of Me” here.

11) DC announced a new Birds of Prey comic book due in October, featuring queer characters such as Harley Quinn, a bisexual character, and Renee Montoya, a lesbian. The comics follow the lineup from the upcoming film Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn), starring Margot Robbie as Quinn and Rosie Perez as Montoya. 12) Looking for a new coffee table book? Newflesh: Queerness Beyond the Body, edited by Efrem-Zelony Mindell, features a collection of works by 68 artists and essays by Charlotte Cotton and Ashley McNelis, all of which attempt to answer the question of what queerness looks like beyond the confines of the body. Set to be published by NYC independent imprint Gnomic Book in August 2019, the book challenges conventional notions of gender and identity. Visit their crowdfunding page for more information here.
