The GLAAD Wrap: 'Big Fat Greek Wedding 2' opens; Matt Bomer, Amandla Stenberg cast in new films and more!

Every week, The GLAAD Wrap brings you LGBT-related entertainment news highlights, fresh stuff to watch out for, and fun diversions to help you kick off the weekend.
1) My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2, the long-awaited sequel to Nia Vardalos’s hit comedy from 2002, hits theaters today. Former NSYNC member Joey Fatone, reprising his role as Angelo, has revealed that his character comes out as gay in the film. Vardalos spoke of the decision to include a gay character, saying “we absolutely have to support our gay and lesbian brothers and sisters. We just must.” My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 is now showing nationwide, check out the trailer below.
2) Out actor Matt Bomer has been cast in Monty Clift, the upcoming Montgomery Clift biopic from HBO. The project, which is still in development, tells the story of the iconic ‘50s actor including his affairs with men and women. Actress and advocate Amandla Stenberg, who came out as bisexual earlier this year, will star in the upcoming film The Hate U Give based on a young adult novel of the same name inspired by the #BlackLivesMatter movement.
3) Freeform has started development on a drama called New People. The series is based on Becoming Nicole: The Transformation of an American Family, the bestselling book about a transgender girl, her twin brother and the story of their family, based on a true story. ABC’s LGBT history miniseries When We Rise has announced that Guy Pierce will play advocate Cleve Jones who founded the NAMES Project AIDS Memorial Quilt. Mary Louise Parker and Rachel Griffiths will play Roma and Diane Guy who co-founded the San Francisco Women’s Building.
4) In other TV news, out comedian Cameron Esposito has released her first standup special Marriage Material through the subscription service Seeso. It has been reported that The Simpsons character Mr. Smithers will come out on the April 3 episode. In a two-week arc, Homer will try to find Mr. Smithers a boyfriend and out actor/advocate George Takei will guest star as himself. Christine Horn has been cast in the untitled Ed Weeks/Hannah McKay pilot as Gail, an ex-lawyer who now owns a bar in Austin with her girlfriend.

5) Out performer Sia has released a music video for her new single “Cheap Thrills” from her album This is Acting. 13-year-old dancer Maddie Ziegler, a staple of Sia’s music videos, makes her return in “Cheap Thrills,” though this time she is also joined by the Sia herself. Check it out below.
6) The Pet Shop Boys released single “The Pop Kids (The full story)” from their upcoming album Super, which will be available April 1. Super will be the Pet Shop Boys 13th studio LP, and “The Pop Kids” joins already released tracks “Happiness” and “Inner Sanctum.” Super is available for pre-order now.
7) Oregon photographer Gia Goodrich is in the process of making a portrait series of LGBT couples and their stories. Entitled Love Wins, the photography project will include both a public exhibition and a book, highlighting the importance of these couples. The goal is to normalize LGBT experiences from all around the country. For more information, you can check out the Kickstarter for the project.
