Every week, The GLAAD Wrap brings you LGBTQ-related entertainment news highlights, fresh stuff to watch out for, and fun diversions to help you kick off the weekend.

1) Footage has been released for multiple documentaries screening at this year’s Tribeca Film Festival. For They Know Not What They Do focuses on the intersection of religion with gender identity and sexual orientation. The clip here follows Sarah McBride, an activist working to fight discrimination against transgender people. A preview has also been released for Moving Parts, which follows drag queen and country singer Trixie Mattel through the course of her artistic journey. It was also announced that Netflix has acquired the Tribeca premiere doc Circus of Books, executive produced by Ryan Murphy. The film centers on the gay adult store Circus of Books in Los Angeles and the straight, older couple who owns the store and their three children.

2) The cast has been announced for the 25^th installment of the James Bond films. Among those returning is out actor Ben Whishaw as Q. Whishaw is just off of a Golden Globe win for his role in the GLAAD Media Award nominated series A Very English Scandal. In other casting news, the cast for the queer drama Alia’s Birth has also been announced, with The Bold Type’s Nikohl Boosheri and The Night Of’s Poorna Jagannathan as the leads. In the film, a rocky relationship between two women forces them to spend the night apart. The film will is written and directed by out filmmaker Sam Abbas.

3) Netflix announced this week that they’ve begun production on a new romcom, The Half of It. The film tells the story of a shy, straight-A student who helps the school jock woo the girl she secretly loves. The film will be directed by out filmmaker Alice Wu (Saving Face).

4) With the release Avengers: Endgame, the Marvel Cinematic Universe introduced its first gay character, played by director Joe Russo. It’s a small character in a support group who talks about dating a new man after his partner died. “We wanted it to be casual, with the fact that the character is gay tied into the fabric of the storytelling and representing what everyday life is,” Russo told Deadline. Hopefully, this will lead to out LGBTQ superheros in further Marvel films. Avengers: Endgame is playing in theaters worldwide.

5) The 1995 film To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar will be released on blu-ray for the first time just in time for pride month, including deleted scenes and a new retrospective feature on the film. The film will be available for Blu-Ray purchase starting May 28.

6) A trailer has been released for out creator Russell T. Davies’ new show Years and Years. The sci-fi comedy show stars out actor Russell Tovey as Daniel Lyons, and follows his family over the course of the next fifteen years through 2034 in a “Britain rocked by unstable political, economic and technological change.” There is no premiere date yet announced.

7) The CW has renewed fourteen of the network’s scripted shows for next season, incuding all five of their new freshman series which are all LGBTQ-inclusive. All American, In the Dark, Charmed, Legacies, and Roswell, New Mexico will return for their second seasons in the 2019-20 season, alongside returning inclusive veterans like Arrow (Season 8), Black Lightning (Season 3), DC’S Legends Of Tomorrow (Season 5), Dynasty (Season 3), The Flash (Season 6), Riverdale (Season 4), and Supergirl (Season 5). In other renewal news, CBS All Access has renewed The Good Fight for a fourth season.

8) Pop star and GLAAD Media Award-nominee Kim Petras released a new single “Broken” on Thursday, and a brand new music video to go along with it. Check out the video below and dowload the single here. 

9) Out musician Stephanie Rice from NBC’s The Voice dropped a new single and lyric video for her track “Pages” on Tuesday. Download or purchase the song here, and watch the video below! 

10) Gay rapper Kevin Abstract of the GLAAD Media Award-nominated group BROCKHAMPTON released a new single and music video this week for a solo track called “Peach.” Watch the video below and listen to the song on all platforms. The song comes from his brand new album ARIZONA BABY which includes the tracks Abstract released this month on his ARIZONA baby and Ghettobaby EPs alongside new songs. ARIZONA BABY is Abstract’s first full-length solo album since his 2016 album American Boyfriend: A Suburban Love Story.

11) The Tony Awards announced on Thursday that they would be giving a lifetime achievement award to out playwright Terrence McNally. In other awards news, the winners of the Webby Awards were announced on Tuesday. Winners include bi singer Kesha for the editing of her “I Need a Woman to Love” video, Billy on the Street’s Emma Stone episode, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Schitt’s Creek and Pod Save the People. 12) The new documentary Libertad is currently seeking funding assistance. The film follows Alejandra, an indigenous, transgender woman from Oaxaca, who is determined to reunite with her mother and explores some of the discrimination she faces and how her multiple intersecting marginalized identities shape her experience.
