The AFA Goes After U.S. Navy Over Harvey Milk Ship
The American Family Association (AFA) is going after the U.S. Navy for announcing they would name a ship after gay rights icon, Harvey Milk.
The Navy announced last week it would a name one of its oiler John Lewis class oiler ships for the civil rights icon, who served in the Navy during the Korean War.
The AFA is no stranger to homophobic hate-mongering. Just recently they got bent out of shape about a gay-inclusive Hilton ad that was featured in Conde Nast Traveler.
AFA is now urging people to contact their elected officials to make clear how incensed they are that the Navy would name a ship after Milk.
The group wrote on its website,
“Harvey Milk was the first homosexual activist elected to public office in the United States and was assassinated in 1978. That record plus the fact that Milk, who bragged about being a pedophile, served in the Navy at a time it was illegal for homosexuals to do so, apparently justifies naming a Navy ship in his honor.
Harvey Milk was a sexual predator who preyed upon teen boys.”
The petition it wants people to support reads in part,
“It is incomprehensible to think that our military leadership has descended to the point that it would even consider naming ships after someone who sought out and took advantage of a minor. Unfortunately, Secretary Mabus has offered such a proposal.”
