Do You Want Out of ‘Empty’ Gay Hook-Ups? So Does This Pop Star: WATCH

Towleroad readers may remember Wils, a rising star in Singapore’s pop scene, who got dropped by his label after he came out to them. At that time, Wils went independent and released a gorgeous music video that served as his official coming out.

Now, Wils has released his latest track, “Empty”, which takes on the loneliness of gay hook-up culture.

Said Wils: Sometimes the biggest challenge we have to face is the internal struggle we have with ourselves. ‘Empty’ is about facing that loneliness when we’re looking for love outside of ourselves instead of within ourselves.”

“Growing up, I used to hide my sexuality because I felt like being gay was wrong,” Wils added. “I didn’t feel like I belonged and I never knew how to find my community. It was terrifying to grow up hiding like that. I hope that LGBTQ-inclusive media and art will help others that feel underrepresented understand that it’s okay to be gay.”

The legend that is Celine Dion released “Courage” on Friday. It’s her first English-language album in six years. To mark the occasion, she delighted and surprised some gay fans in New York City.

Just after midnight on Friday morning, she showed up at Lips. It’s a restaurant on the Upper East Side that has regular drag shows.

The venue was hosting a Celine-themed night to tie in with the new album. Fans sung karaoke versions of Dion’s biggest hits – unaware of the evening’s big surprise.

Dion, 51, took the stage and proceeded to sing one of her latest songs. The karaoke screen ensured everyone else could join in.

One lucky man in the audience tweeted his surprise.

“I can’t believe I watched Céline Dion do karaoke of her own song at a gay bar at 12:30 AM last night,” said @dbenderstern. His tweet, which included a clip of Dion, has gone viral and been liked almost a quarter of a million times.

He had to assure some of those commentating that this was indeed Celine Dion, and not drag queen Jeffree Star (who bears a passing resemblance to the Canadian superstar).

“This album has been a long process,” Dion told the packed audience. “I’m sorry it took a while, but thank you so much for all your support through the years and for being here tonight.

“I hope René will like the album, and I hope you like it as well, of course. I put my heart into it. I love you all very much.”

René is her late husband, René Angélil. He passed away in 2016. Dion went on to sing her new track, aptly entitled, “Flying On My Own”.

One of the drag queens present on the stage alongside Dion was Stephanie Stone. She told Today: “As we know in life sometimes there are disappointments. Celine is not one of them. She delivers. So funny, kind and everything you hope for.”

Meanwhile, the audience at Lips were not the only ones going gaga for Dion this weekend. Sam Smith has co-written one of the tracks on the new album. They took to Twitter to singer Dion’s praises.

John Oliver Destroys Laura Ingraham and Jim Jordan’s Arguments About Trump’s Innocence: WATCH

John Oliver ripped GOP attempts to excuse Trump’s impeachable offenses on last night’s Last Week Tonight on HBO, specifically targeting FOX News host Laura Ingraham, who clucked, “attempted bribery isn’t in the constitution!”

Replied Oliver: “Crime doesn’t stop being a crime if it doesn’t work. If you tried to blow up an airliner and your vest doesn’t go off, you don’t get to go ‘welp, no harm no foul,’ and then sit there watching Detective Pikachu for the rest of the flight. Also, Ukraine only got its aid after the House started asking questions. And the Ukrainian president was days away from publicly announcing investigations, but canceled his announcement at the last minute after this story started breaking. So, the nothing to see here defense’ is pretty shaky.”

Oliver also destroyed the “hearsay” argument pushed by loudmouth Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH), adding: “Multiple people have gone on record saying the President was pressuring Zelensky for his own political gain, including his own chief of staff Mick Mulvaney, who did so on camera. So yes, the fact that there was quid pro quo is all ‘hearsay,’ in that you hear people say it all the f**king time.”

Celine Dion Has Settled the ‘Titanic’ Door Debate: WATCH

Tonight Show host Jimmy Fallon asked Celine Dion, as an authority on Titanic, to comment on one of the movie’s longstanding debates: was there enough room on that door for both Rose and Jack?

Said Dion: “First of all, if you look closely [at] the picture, Rose is maybe dead or totally frozen, and she’s not quite all there, okay? Second of all, he doesn’t need an invitation. Come on, baby! Make himself comfortable. Jump in. You know? And then who did not think about this guy who is in the middle of the frozen ocean and that maybe all his body is so frozen that he didn’t have the strength to…”

And because no Celine interview is complete without a musical number, well…

Jordan Steffy, the 16-year-old LaPorte, Indiana high school student who went viral this week in a video defending himself against a bully he said had been calling him “faggot” for years, appeared on Tamron Hall’s daytime talk show this week. He spoke to Hall about what led to the fight.

Hall and Jordan noted that his bully is now getting attacked on social media, and Jordan told Hall he wants it to stop: “I want all the negative comments going towards him to stop. I have no idea what’s going on in his life, as he has no idea what’s going on in mine. I can’t hold what he said accountable against him, because I don’t know how he was raised. …  I don’t know if it was a heat-of-the-moment thing. I don’t know if it was what he truly believes in. But I can’t hold him accountable for being bullied against hundreds if not thousands of people.”

Jordan is leaving LaPorte High School to be home schooled after the incident. He doesn’t appear to be happy about it.

Conway was not pleased. More, via The Hill: “It’s the same stuff all the time. What you just quoted is said every day by other voices but you wanted to put it in my husband’s voice because you think somehow that that will help your ratings or that you’re really sticking it to Kellyanne Conway … Where is the shame, where is the introspection? … I think you embarrassed yourself and I’m embarrassed for you because this is CNN now? I looked up to you when I was in college and law school, I would turn on CNN to see what Wolf Blitzer had to say about war, famine, disruption abroad. I really respected you for all those years as someone that would give you the news and now it’s what somebody’s husband says.”

Laughter Erupts as Peter Welch Drops Mic on Trump Ally Jim Jordan in Impeachment Hearing: WATCH

Rep. Jim Jordan appeared self-satisfied after delivering a lengthy rant complaining about the fact that the Ukraine whistleblower, who is protected under federal law, wouldn’t be testifying at the impeachment hearings, but his ass was handed to him by Rep. Peter Welch (D-VT).

Whined Jordan: “There’s one witness, one witness that they won’t bring in front of us, they won’t bring in front of the American people, and that’s the guy who started it all, the whistleblower.”

Replied Jordan to cackling from the audience: “I say to my colleague, I would be glad to have the person who started it all come in and testify. President Trump is welcome to take a seat right there.”

Referring to the whistleblower, Rep. Jim Jordan says Congress will never get a chance to question the one “who started it all.”

Andy Cohen makes major reveal about his early career and how it could have changed everything

On Watch What Happens Live this week, Andy Cohen revealed to Sex and the City alumna Kristin Davis that the two of them were almost co-workers.

Cohen revealed that he once auditioned for a role in the HBO series, but that he ultimately didn’t get the part.

“Michael Patrick King for some reason was like, ‘Come in and read for … ‘ I think the part that wound up going to Mario Cantone,” Cohen explained. “I think it was the the party planner, which was a huge part.”

Cantone played gay party planner Anthony Marentino in the series, as well as in both films. Marentino was the gay best friend of Charlotte York, played by Davis.

“I don’t think the expectation was for it to wind up being such a huge part,” Cohen continued. “Mario is so great that they were probably like, ‘Okay, well we have to.’ But it was I think that party planner.”

Ultimately, Cohen did land a small speaking role in the final season, playing a shoe salesman at Barney’s. He also made a brief cameo in Season 4.

“I was also in a gay bar shirtless next to Sarah Jessica in season 4,” he said.

Had Cohen landed the role of Anthony Marentino, however, his career would have likely taken a very different trajectory.

WATCH: Why the sexiest gay men are often the most lonely

Actor Michael Fariss stars in the latest Michael Henry YouTube video (Photo: YouTube)

It’s the curse of being beautiful: Other gay guys are more interested in getting into your pants than genuine friendship.

That’s according to a character in the latest comedy sketch from YouTuber Michael Henry.

Michael comes across a conventionally good-looking acquaintance (played by Michael Fariss), who’s upset because he has no “real gay friends.” Despite having a “cute boyfriend”, good job and close female friends, all he does with his new gay friends is fool around with them.

Michael’s advice? “The way to make friends isn’t though your anus.

“All you sexys only have surface friendships because you are stuck in this loop of connecting and validating each other through some sort of sexual activity.”

He advises his handsome friend to wear pants instead of revealing shorts and to join an improv class.

Maryland Company Claims to Have Cure for HIV/AIDS Through Gene Therapy, Expects Clinical Trial in January: WATCH

Maryland Company Claims to Have Cure for HIV/AIDS Through Gene Therapy, Expects Clinical Trial in January: WATCH

American Gene Technologies in Rockville, Maryland says it has submitted an application to the FDA for a gene therapy it claims eliminates HIV.

CBS Baltimore reports: “The company said the therapy, AGT103-T, is a genetically-modified product made from a person’s own cells that focuses on repairing damage to the immune system caused by HIV. The company expects to start a phase one clinical trial in humans in January.”

Said Chief Science Officer C. David Pauza, PhD: “Our aim is to treat HIV disease with an innovative cell and gene therapy that reconstitutes immunity to HIV and will control virus growth in the absence of antiretroviral drugs. Development of this complex product (AGT103-T) required our deep knowledge of both HIV disease and lentivirus vector technology; it is the first cell and gene immunotherapy addressing the most critical feature of HIV infection, which is the chronic absence of virus-specific CD4 T cells.”

Said Jeff Galvin, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of AGT: “We are excited to have reached this milestone of submitting our first IND application to the FDA for an HIV gene/cell therapy. This event brings us closer to reaching our mission to transform lives with genetic medicines. Based on our successful commercial-scale product manufacturing runs and features of the product observed in our laboratories, this therapy has a high potential to be effective. I feel confident that AGT103-T will make an important difference in the lives of HIV infected persons. HIV is the first drug candidate to result from AGT’s proprietary platform and model for creating gene and cell therapeutics more efficiently, predictably and reliably for clinical development.”
