WATCH: Kathy Griffin married in surprise NYE ceremony with Lily Tomlin presiding

Kathy Griffin welcomed the new decade with a surprise wedding, marrying longtime boyfriend Randy Bick at her Hollywood home on December 31, 2019.

The small (and quite short) ceremony was presided over by none other than Lily Tomlin, whose partner, Jane Wagner, was also in attendance.

The entire ceremony was just under 14 minutes but I have to give you guys the uncut first 75 seconds. LOVE IT! We promised you atypical. We are in love and we cannot stop laughing. Thank you @LilyTomlin and Jane Wagner!#HappyNewYear pic.twitter.com/O5vOss3TCD

“What was supposed to be a shallow, ‘toot it and boot it’ one-night stand has grown and flourished into something far more meaningful,” Tomlin says after Griffin exchanges some interior decorating remarks with an off-screen Wagner. “They stayed together. Then they couldn’t stay away from one another.”

In a follow-up tweet, Griffin added that her wedding dress was actually the dress she wore on her first date with Bick.

“This was our first formal date in September 2011!” she wrote. “We are in the back of a limo provided by the one only @GloriaEstefan because her team arranged for me to surprise her as a back up ‘dancer’ when she performed at the Alma awards!”

“I asked Randy to pick out which ever one of my long dresses was his favorite for any reason. He picked out this dress and showed me this photo. Romance is hotttt again.”

2019 was a good year for Griffin. She released a documentary, A Hell of a Story, chronicling her experience following the infamous 2017 Trump decapitation photo shoot, she toured with her latest show, Laugh Your Head Off, and she even managed to squeeze in a marriage at the last second.

Gay Couple Ejected from Bar in Puerto Rico Because Two Men Were Dancing Together: WATCH

A gay couple visiting Orocovis, Puerto Rico were stunned when they were kicked out of a restaurant after one of the men began dancing with a straight male friend of the family. The couple, Trey May and Luis Santiago Rivera posted videos to social media shot during the incident at Gyros Orocovis.

Said May in a video posted to social media: “So this place is very homophobic. Just got kicked out for dancing with someone who wasn’t even my boyfriend. So if you’re ever in this area in Puerto Rico, please, do not go. These people are very homophobic.”

CBS This Morning reporter David Begnaud posted about the incident on Twitter after talking to the couple and the restaurant.

Wrote Begnaud: “I reached out to Gyros, via Facebook, to ask if the patrons’ account is true. They responded: ‘Greetings, everything was a misunderstanding, nobody threw them away, they were only asked to go outside since they had also lit an electronic cigarette, those who quickly……get frustrated are you and quickly defame what is not. That’s all I say, I just ask you not to continue commenting on something that is not real. Goodnight.’”

Begnaud added: “Luis Santiago-Rivera confirms that someone in their group was using an e-cigarette, but says they had been at the bar for more than an hour, when they were told to stop dancing, and that no one ever told them to go outside or leave for using an e-cigarette. Luis Santiago-Rivera alleges homophobic slurs were directed at them by the employee who told them to stop dancing. About the incident, the gay couple tells me they were embarrassed in front of their family, who was with them at the bar. They left feeling discriminated against and humiliated.”

The restaurant published an apology on its Facebook page.

It wrote: “To all our customers, LGBT community and customers affected
Our intention has never been the offending of any person. All customers who have had the opportunity to visit us know first hand how is the deal we give day by day. We apologize greatly to the customers affected today and we express that we are open to dialogue with them in specific. Our intention is to give a good service to all alike. To the whole community, we had never had misunderstandings with any member. The doors are open to receive and treat them as we all deserve. If they give us the opportunity we will prove it. To the boys who felt offended apologies. If you communicate with us we can give them personally.”

Former Fox News producer insists gay culture at network is thriving but can’t provide any evidence

Former Fox News producer insists gay culture at network is thriving but can’t provide any evidence

A former Fox News producer is pushing back against depictions of gay culture at the “most polarizing brand in cable news” in the new film Bombshell.

Erin Gaetz was a producer at Fox News from 2013 to 2015 before leaving to work for Jeb Bush’s failed presidential campaign. She openly calls the network the “most polarizing brand in cable news,” but is it as horrible as Bombshell makes it seem?

According to Gaetz, the answer is no. (Remember, of course, that she’s a Fox News alum, so you can decide what that does to her credibility.)

In a new article published by Spectator, Gaetz addresses some of the alleged inaccuracies in the film, including the idea that everyone who works there is “a red-meat, MAGA-hat-wearing Republican.”

“This comes as a surprise to most people, though it probably shouldn’t,” she writes. “On the team of about eight people I worked with at Fox Business, I would estimate that party affiliation was evenly split amongst Republicans and Democrats.”

“So the next time you or a loved one is driven to a near fugue state by a segment on Tucker Carlson, know that it may have been produced by someone with a ‘Warren for President’ bumper sticker.”

Somehow we doubt that, but OK.

Gaetz also talks about gay culture at the network and insists the film got that totally 100% wrong.

“McKinnon’s character is gay–but she goes to great lengths to conceal her sexuality at work, where she fears it will hinder her career advancement,” she writes. “This couldn’t be further from the truth.”

According to Gaetz, the offices at Fox News are brimming with proud members of the LGBTQ community.

“There are plenty of producers–many of whom work on high-profile shows–who are openly gay,” she asserts.

In some ways, this is great! A major network is employing LGBTQ people and putting them in leadership roles on some their most important shows… until you realize that those very shows give platforms to antigay politicians, pundits, and activists who are actively working to mislead people and dismantle LGBTQ equality.

Speaking of her alleged openly gay former colleagues, Gaetz writes: “They decorate their cubicles with pictures of their spouses, bring their partners to work events and speak openly about their relationships.”

She continues, “Many of the anchors are outspoken supporters of the LGBTQ community. Though I am sure there are people who choose to keep their personal live private, the idea that it would be scandalous to be gay at Fox is false.”

Hmmm. We’re not sure which Fox News anchors are “outspoken supporters of the LGBTQ community.” Gaetz doesn’t mention a single one by name and we can’t think of any ourselves.

Laura Ingraham has a gay brother and yet she regularly attacks LGBTQ people on her show. Tucker Carlson gleefully admitted to committing a hate crime when he and his friend beat up a gay man for looking at them. And the only out news anchor, Shep Smith, was forced to abruptly leave network earlier this year.

One thing Gaetz claims the movie does get right, however, is the idea of “making your grandma scared or your grandpa angry.”

“This, maybe more than anything else in the movie, was completely true of my time there, albeit in less sinister terms,” she writes.

“In our morning rundown meetings, we frequently posed the question to each other, ‘Will Grandma and Grandpa Heartland care about this?’ If the answer was no, good luck getting your story on the air. The saying ‘if it bleeds, it leads’ exists for a reason.”

The film, which also stars Forest Whitaker, Marlon Wayans, Audra McDonald, Mary J. Blige, Marc Maron, Tate Donovan and Tituss Burgess, follows Franklin’s rise from a church singer to, well, being Aretha Franklin, international superstar. Singer Marianne Faithful once said Franklin had “the voice of God.” Beyonce Knowles has called Franklin her greatest inspiration.

Hudson was handpicked for the role by Franklin herself prior to her death in 2018. Respect, directed by South African director Liesl Tommy in her feature film debut, hits theatres August 14, 2020.

Stephen Colbert Ridicules Hallmark, One Million Moms for Gay Wedding Ad Debacle: WATCH

Stephen Colbert mocked Hallmark’s immediate cave to One Million Moms last week over a Zola gay wedding ad in which two brides kiss. Hallmark announced this week that they would reinstate the ad.

One Million Moms complained that Hallmark strayed from entertainment that the whole family could watch, and Colbert responded: “Let’s be honest. Your whole family isn’t getting together to watch Hallmark Christmas movies. Real moms watch them alone at night while trying to assemble a Fisher-Price kitchen, and drinking out of a wine glass that says, When Caleb Whines, Mommy Wines.”

Colbert also ripped Hallmark for its excuse that it doesn’t want to create controversy: “We know. We’ve seen your movies. Hallmark doesn’t generate controversy, character growth, dramatic tension, or leading roles for black people.”

And he aired footage of William Shatner, who had slammed Hallmark for the move, talking to one of the One Million Moms.

Concluded Colbert: “Well just like in the Hallmark classic, A Shoe Addict’s Christmas, there’s a happy ending. … Hallmark announced that they will reinstate the commercials. … There was drama, they broke up, they got back together, a wedding was involved, and everyone was white. Wow. They do have just one plotline.”

Construction Begins on US Navy Ship Named for Gay Rights Icon Harvey Milk: WATCH

Construction has begun on a Navy ship named for gay civil rights icon Harvey Milk, the first openly gay man to be elected to political office in California. Milk served in the Navy during the Korean war and came from a family with a history of serving in the Navy. Milk and Mayor George Moscone were assassinated by former Supervisor Dan White at City Hall in 1978.

The Washington Post reports: “In a move that signaled an about-face on the issue of gay rights, the Navy on Friday began to construct the USNS Harvey Milk, a fleet oiler that will provide fuel to ships and aircraft. The Navy announced in 2016 that Milk’s name would appear on a ship, along with other civil rights leaders, including abolitionist Sojourner Truth and suffragist Lucy Stone.”
