Recent Drag Race UK winner The Vivienne has become the first person to marry at the UK’s most famous gay nightclub, Heaven in Charing Cross, London.

Heaven opened its doors in 1979 and recently celebrated its 40th anniversary. It is the host venue for G-A-Y , one of Europe’s biggest and most well-known gay promotions.

Earlier this year, Heaven applied for a marriage license. On Sunday, it put that license to use for the first time. It hosted the nuptials of Liverpool drag star The Vivienne, real name James Lee Williams, and partner David Ludford, who acts as his PA.

Williams won the first season of Drag Race UK, which ended last month. A second season has already been commissioned.

The men were married on stage, while friends and family watched from tables set on the dancefloor. From Instagram stories posted from those present, the club was transformed for the event. Among the guests were fellow RPDR queens Blu Hydrangea, Cheryl Hole and Gothy Kendoll.

Cabaret was provided by Chad Michaels, a former contestant on RPDR in the US and All Stars. Williams said: “Just a dream come true. The happiest day of our lives made a million times better. ICON, mentor, friend @chadmichaelsallstar”

The couple’s cake was prepared by John Whaite, a former winner of The Great British Bake Off.

Heaven owner and G-A-Y promoter Jeremy Joseph posted a photo of the men on stage, saying: “I Couldn’t Be More Happy Or More Proud Of @thevivienne_ & @luddy1990 fWho Got Married Today For Heaven’s First Wedding.”

Jai Rodriquez has a queer eye on the holidays

Jai Rodriquez has a queer eye on the holidays

As the holiday season nears, we asked a series of influencers what about their deepest, darkest year-end secrets–in addition to what they hope to see under the tree December 25.

Jai Rodriguez is perhaps best known Bravo network’s Queer Eye for the Straight Guy. But his CV is as broad as it is deep. He starred in Geoffrey in the ABC sitcom Malibu Country from 2012 to 2013, and got his start in the Toronto cast of Broadway stage musical Rent and the Off-Broadway musical Zanna, Don’t!

What are you working on right now?
You can see me on Dollface on Hulu, Eastsiders on Netflix and Diary of a Female President on Disney + in 2020.

This is a divided time in America, how will you use the holiday season to bring loved ones together?
By leaving the country and going to Mexico. Lol. For some of us who’s family doesn’t accept us I’ve learned it’s ok to reclaim the holiday and spend it with my family of choice. On a beach. In a speedo.

What’s your favorite childhood holiday memory?
I’d say my grandmother who raised me allowing me to have small glasses of Coquito which is basically a Puerto Rican egg nog that’s loaded with Bacardi. In hindsight not great parenting, but it explains my love of Bacardi now.

What are you hoping for underneath the tree this year?
I actually can’t remember opening gifts. I clearly need more friends. I thought only kids got presents. Well, damn. I want Matthew Camp under the tree this year.

Can the kind folks over at Queerty make this happen for me?

I never thought I’d be one of those people who would post a thirsty shirtless, but I’ve worked way too hard for way too long so here we are. You either die a hero, or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain. I found out a year ago I was going to be in Marvel’s Eternals and decided I wanted to transform how I looked. I would not have been able to do this if I didn’t have a full year with the best trainers and nutritionists paid for by the biggest studio in the world. I’m glad I look like this, but I also understand why I never did before. It would have been impossible without these resources and time. So big thanks to @grantrobertsfit who started working with me at the beginning of the year and made me understand true physical pain for months and months. Then, once we started shooting, a massive thanks to @davidhigginslondon and his team (@ellispartridge, @thebeardypt, @tomcheesemanfitness) for training me almost every day and making me strong, limber and injury free. I can almost touch my toes now. (And thank you for forcing me to do cheat meals David.) Matthews Street Catering for their delicious and healthy meals. And finally, the biggest thanks goes to @emilyvgordon for putting up with me complaining and talking about only working out and dieting for the last year. Kit Williamson is giving the “gospel of gay” during the holiday season

As the holiday season nears, we asked a series of influencers what about their deepest, darkest year-end secrets–in addition to what they hope to see under the tree December 25.

Kit Williamson is director and producer of the Emmy-nominated series EastSiders, which chronicles the lives of a group of friends in the Silver Lake neighborhood of Los Angeles. The fourth and final season just landed on Netflix.

What are you working on right now?
I’m excited about the fourth season. It’s a dark comedy about a gay couple and their friends in Silver Lake, California. And it’s certainly in the holiday spirit. The first season even takes place over Christmas.

This is a divided time in America, how will you use the holiday season to bring loved ones together?
Well, I know this first hand because I’m from Mississippi. The older I get the more I’m drawn back home to spread the gospel of gay to the south. My husband John and I actually literally brought our families together over Thanksgiving; his folks road-tripped down to meet mine in The Ozarks.

Related: Kit Williamson on the shocking final season of Eastsiders

What’s your favorite childhood holiday memory?
My parents would always set up Christmas in the living room and make my sister and I walk out together with our eyes covered. They’d lead us over to the table where Santa ate the cookies we let out, make us cover our eyes again and walk over to the presents. It was really an exercise in how well you could peek between your fingers to avoid falling.

What are you hoping for underneath the tree this year?

It’s more of a trip than a gift but a ski trip to Mammoth on March 18 would be wonderful!

Husbands Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka have given Architectural Digest a tour of their brownstone home in Harlem, New York City.

Actor Harris met fellow actor and chef Burtka in 2004. They became parents to twins Gideon and Harper in 2010 and married in 2014. They’ve been in their current home for around six years.

Burtka explains the building dates back to the late 1800s. During its time, its been a speakeasy for mill workers and music school for girls.

To amuse and welcome guests, the men have a large, old apothecary cabinet with drawers. Guests can open a drawer to find a surprise gift, such as a gift card.

The house is full of contemporary art, and Burtka also reveals a passion for taxidermy, for which he’s even taking classes. One room – the parlor – has a large bar and is decorated with stuffed monkeys!

The house features two huge Christmas trees, and the men explain some of the background to the decorations and many of the family portraits around the home.

Harris and Burtka clearly love the holidays. They also featured in a recent holiday campaign for Walgreens, which they’ve shared on their social media.

PHOTOS: Belgian rowers strip down to support queer athletes

A group of Belgian rowers is using the power of thirst for a good cause, promoting LGBTQ inclusion in sports with a steamy locker room photoshoot.

Out rower Simon Haerinck launched the initiative, called Same Sport, Different Sexuality, on Instagram, where the first two posts quickly racked up likes.

In the photos, Haerinck poses with straight rowers Niels Raoul Boone, Ruben Claeys, and Henri Steyaert.

The first one shows the guys shirtless with the text “Same Sport Different Sexuality” written on their chests:

View this post on Instagram

Today we are launching the first part of our campaign “same sport, different sexuality”, to raise awareness about homophobia in sports, which unfortunately is still a taboo. Playing sports should be about having fun and improving your mental and physical health. It’s about escaping the daily stress of school or work. You should not have to worry about your sexual orientation whilst playing the sport you love. This is why we reach out to you! To all straight people playing sports: take a picture with your LGBTQ- teammate to show them your love and acceptance, and post it using our hashtag #samesportdifferentsexuality. We will be collecting all pics on our social media pages. No one should have to hide their sexuality out of fear for their teammates’ reactions. No one should have to be afraid to even start playing sports for this reason. Sport is for everyone so let’s create a place of acceptance. Big thanks to my fellow rowers @claeys_ruben, @nielsraoulboone and @henri__st . Straight guys who truly don’t have a problem with me being gay and accept everyone for who he or she is. Big thanks to our amazing photographer @louiskerckhof and his assistant @nanoialoha , for the great pictures. Big thanks to our MUA @suki_mg_ , a real upcoming talent. Couldn’t have done it without you guys. #same #sport #different #sexuality #sports #straightguy #gay #lgbtq #awereness #instaguy #campaign #taboo #equality #sportlife #love #homophobia #rowing #roeien #sexualorientation @hoscos

A post shared by Simon Haerinck (@simonhaerinck) on

By the second entry in the campaign, they were wearing even less clothing:

View this post on Instagram

Part 2 of the campaign: the taboo of the locker room and showering together. As a rower I can’t really complain about this. Rowers are very open and accepting. In other sports there is still a bit of work to be done. Fact: 1 in 3 straight soccer players is not comfortable showering next to a LGBTQ- player. I can’t really get my head around this. I don’t see why this could be a problem. Did anyone had a bad experience with this? Or how is the situation in your club? Let me know in the comments below. ? Let’s tackle this problem together. Thank you Pic by @louiskerckhof #sports #rowers #rowing #samesportdifferentsexuality #shower #showerpic #naked #lockerroom #taboo #straight #gay #lgbtq #justpeople #soccer #basketball #tennis @theellenshow

A post shared by Simon Haerinck (@simonhaerinck) on

Speaking to Outsports, Haerinck explained what he hopes to accomplish with the campaign:

“I don’t want to pressure anyone to come out on their team. But if they choose to do so, a sports club should be a place of acceptance. And if they see a lot of straight people take pictures with their queer teammates, maybe they will have the strength to finally be themselves.”

Same-sex couple win Denmark’s Dancing With The Stars

Same-sex couple win Denmark’s Dancing With The Stars

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by Silasholst (@silasholst) on

A same-sex dance couple have made history by winning Denmark’s TV show, Vild med Dans. The show is its version of Dancing With The Stars.

The pair comprise of gay actor Jakob Fauerby, 42, and professional dancer Silas Holst, 36. They have consistently wowed audiences and judges with their routines, securing the highest score in four of the show’s previous eight episodes.

Fauerby says that when he was invited to take part, he requested to be partnered with another man.

Once producers agreed to the request, Holst, who had taken a break from the show for the past five years, returned to dance with Fauerby.

Although the pair’s participation has been met with much praise, there have been some detractors. Fauerby has appeared on several news shows to defend his participation as one half of the first same-sex couple in the show’s 16-year history.

“We are a small country of only 5.6 million people, and every Friday more than a million people tune in to watch the show and many more watch it on-demand afterward,” LGBTQ Nation reports Fauerby saying.

“There are very few shows that everyone sees, and this is one of them, so there are a lot of feelings connected to it.”

Related: The first male couple on Denmark’s “Dancing with the Stars” is stirring up controversy… & winning

He says that criticism died down after the first couple of shows and the novelty of seeing two men dance together wore off.

“What happened after the first two shows is that people saw weren’t going to have anal sex on stage.

“It is feelings. It is sensuality. But it is not sexuality. It’s just two people dancing.”

When they danced their paso doble at Friday’s finale, one of the judges, Marianne Eihilt cheered and said, “I am so proud to live in a country where two men can make a final,” reports Politiken.

Afterward, Fauebry, a father to two children, took to Instagram to post about his joy and pride at winning.

“It’s totally crazy and absolutely amazing. Thank you so much to all of you for your wonderful messages and great support over the last 12 weeks.

“I am so proud that my daughter, her big brother, and all other little boys and girls can go out into the world and love them the way they want and dance with whomever they want.”

He called his dance partner, Host, “the bravest man” and thanked him for partnering with him: “It was worth it. Now we have to party! With all my heart – thank you very much.”

Holst, in return, posted: “I am proud! Proud of our hard work was rewarded, but most importantly proud to share a country with all of you who have dared to open your mind and look at something new with open eyes.

“That you saw through both sex and sexuality and only saw two people dancing. It fills my heart with love and my eyes with tears! Thank you so much for all your love and voices! It has been touching and absolutely amazing to feel your support!”

Last year, Italy’s version of Dancing With The Stars, Ballando con le Stelle, featured a gay celebrity partnered with a male professional dancer. The duo reached the competition’s grand final and came third.

The Israeli version of the show has featured a same-sex female competing couple and the Austrian version has featured a male competing couple. Earlier this year, Courtney Act danced with a male partner in the Australian version of the show.

There has yet to be a same-sex competing pairing on the US’s Dancing With The Stars. Nyle DiMarco did participate in a brief, same-sex routine in a January 2016 episode of the show. He went on to win the series with his female dance partner, Peta Murgatroyd.

UK TV show Strictly Come Dancing – forerunner to Dancing With The Stars in the US and other countries – featured its first same-sex dance routine in early November. The dancers were professionals, not celebrity contestants.

A report in Britain’s Sunday Times yesterday suggested UK show producers are seeking a drag queen – possibly a former Drag Race contestant – to take part in the next series.

How remarkable is it to be seen, to just stand here among a group of people (None who look like you) breathing life into your world Not asking you to explain yourself, your skin, your religion, or your lover to find others whom don’t share your blood But share your heart, or what you think the meaning of life is, and of the worse burden of being invisible, of being made incorrectly . . . because some deem it. No you have found just the right light—and you have only to bask in it and be thankful for words so kind so caring they seem not words but shooting stars, in which your mere lucid actualization eclipses stereotype. How remarkable it all is! And how remarkable it is not to be seen, not at all, to, well, just stand here while people (none who look like you) not knowingly say those hurtful wrong things, But they think they’re the right things if you are, which you’re not, the same —a difference, really, so indifferent it’s a cliff note in the novel of your life, Perception really, to add context to the story. And so you don’t mind, you welcome the anonymity of those hushed whispers crawling like insects, having found, after all, you are thankful —and you’ve lived here, how remarkable!— that you’ve been led to disappear, like the abortion that didn’t take under the light of the operating table, the falling stars. I know I’m the guy that has everything it takes to be a champion. It’s not just about being great inside the ring: it’s about being able to do great things outside of the ring. Not everyone has that. I love to be out there with the people.
