Is Sophia Hutchins actually Caitlyn Jenner’s girlfriend or not? Here’s the truth…

Sophia Hutchins, Caitlyn Jenner at the WE tv's Real Love: Relationship Reality at the Paley Center for Media on December 11, 2018 in Beverly Hills, CA
Sophia Hutchins and Caitlyn Jenner. Contrary to popular belief, Hutchins is not Caitlyn Jenner’s girlfriend. The two are business partners, they’re not in a romantic relationship.

Many people know Sophia Hutchins as Caitlyn Jenner’s girlfriend, but the relationship between Jenner and the young trans woman is much more complex than just a romantic relationship.

In fact, far from being Caitlyn Jenner’s girlfriend, the two are more like business partners. While Hutchins attended Pepperdine University, Jenner inspired her to transition as a trans woman, and when the two became friends later on, Jenner helped Hutchins launch a business.

Here’s how two of the most famous trans women forged a friendship and became business partners.

Sophia Hutchins transitioned as a freshman at Pepperdine University

While attending the California Christian school Pepperdine University, Sophia Hutchins came out as a trans woman in a December 2016 Pepperdine University Graphic article.

In the article, Hutchins said that she felt like a girl from “a very young age,” researched transgender transitioning in the third grade and told some friends she felt like a girl around age 15. But in college, Hutchins said she finally had time to “deal with a lot of issues… break away from my family and [start] to establish my own identity.”

Sophia Hutchins said she said was encouraged to come out as a trans woman because Caitlyn Jenner’s April 2015 coming out interview on ABC’s 20/20 “made it so much more real … like normal and successful people do this and people are okay when they do it.”

Hutchins then resigned as President of the Pepperdine University Student Government Association (SGA) to take a semester-long leave of absence to transition into a trans woman.

Despite identifying as a political conservative, Sophia Hutchins served as the chair of the LGBTQ+ committee in Pepperdine University’s SGA and a member of Crossroads, the university’s first LGBTQ club.

So is Sophia Hutchins really Caitlyn Jenner’s girlfriend or are they just business partners?

Sometime before graduating from Pepperdine University in 2018, Sophia Hutchins became closer friends with Caitlyn Jenner, leading people to wonder whether she was Caitlyn Jenner’s girlfriend or the two were involved in some other sort of romantic relationship.

Pics on the women’s respective Instagram accounts made it seem as if the two vacationed together in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico near the end of October 2017 and June 2018.

When asked via social media in July 2018 if she was in a relationship, Sophia answered, “Oh yes!” with a heart-eyed emoji. When asked if she was engaged, Hutchins replied, “I’ll show you the ring when I am.”

However, in Sophia Hutchins’ October 2018 interview on The Hidden Truth, she explained that she’s neither Caitlyn Jenner’s girlfriend or in a romantic relationship with her. Instead, she said, “We’re partners in everything we do, we’re inseparable, we’re business partners, we live together, we share a dog, we share family, we share a life together.”

She has also said that she’s close with Caitlyn’s ex-wife Kris Jenner and their reality star children: Kylie Jenner, Kendall Jenner and their half-sister Kim Kardashian.

Sophia Hutchins has previously served as the CEO of the Caitlyn Jenner Foundation, which “promotes equality and combats discrimination by providing grants to organizations that empower and improve the lives of transgender people.”

Jenner’s own battle with skin cancer inspired Hutchins to launch Lumasol, an FDA-approved odorless SPF 50+ sunscreen mist that can be applied without messing up a person’s makeup. Working as business partners, Jenner helped Hutchins secure $3 million in seed money from Peter Thiel’s Founders Fund and Greycroft Ventures for the product which will hit the market in early 2020.

Reverend told by homophobes that his late husband has gone to hell

Few of us wish to contemplate the pain of losing a partner. How much worse to then receive messages from so-called Christians informing you that they’re pleased your other half had died and that he’s now residing in hell.

That’s the situation that a reverend with the Church of England finds himself in this week, following the death of his civil partner.

Rev. Richard Coles, 57, has celebrity status in the UK. In the 1980s, as a musician, he teamed up with singer Jimmy Somerville to form the band The Communards and enjoyed a number one hit single with a cover of “Don’t Leave Me This Way” in 1986 (it reached 40 in the Billboard Hot 100).

After the band split, Coles followed a very different path, becoming ordained with the Church of England. He’s the vicar of Finedon, Northamptonshire. He has a show on BBC radio and also appeared as a contestant on the UK version of Dancing with the Stars (Strictly Come Dancing) – in 2017.

Reverends David and Richard Coles (Photo: Twitter)

In 2007 he met his partner, a fellow Church of England clergy, Rev. David Coles. The Church allows clergy to marry. However, it only permits clergy to enter same-sex civil unions if those involved vow to remain celibate (a contentious issue and one that LGBTQ advocates in the church continue to lobby against).

Sadly, Richard took to Twitter this week to announce David had died following a period of illness.

I’m very sorry to say that @RevDavidColes has died. He had been ill for a while. Thanks to the brilliant teams who looked after him at @KettGeneral. Funeral details to follow. “The Lord shall be thine everlasting light, and the days of thy mourning shall be ended”. pic.twitter.com/usvLDIBDv7

— Richard Coles (@RevRichardColes) December 17, 2019

He was immediately flooded with messages of support and condolences.

However, it appears not everyone feels the same sympathy.

Coles returned to Twitter yesterday to say: “99.99999% loveliness from people and then a small but lively correspondence from Christians who wish me to know that D is in hell and I will follow. It’s like the Khmer Rouge suddenly popping up in a stream of condolence.”

— Richard Coles (@RevRichardColes) December 19, 2019

He followed it up a few hours later with an example.

“A letter, courageously unsigned, begins: ‘Dear Mr Coles, I can’t begin to tell you how happy I am to hear of the death of your partner…’”

News of the hate mail has prompted further messages of support. Coles has been quick to assure his followers that he is unaffected by the correspondence.

“The horrible letters: they don’t touch me. I am right now an expert in pain, the real kind, and these are paper darts among the incoming, and just leave me mildly curious about the state of mind of the writer.”

However, he has reported the messages to police, who are investigating them as potential hate crimes. Northamptonshire police confirmed to the BBC they had visited Coles, “in relation to malicious communications he had received.

“We take a zero-tolerance approach towards hate crime and would encourage anyone who has been a victim of hate crime to come forward and report it to us.”

Police called this evening, sympathetic and professional, and my hateful correspondence is now evidence. Thank you @NorthantsPolice

— Richard Coles (@RevRichardColes) December 20, 2019

Despite his obvious heartache, Coles says he has managed to smile and been touched by the support he has received.

“Bumped into a friend. We talked about D and how much we loved him and how good he was at sorting out those parts of my life in which I am deficient. Then she said, “you know, he’d never have let you out in that shirt and jumper”. First proper laugh since widowhood arrived.”

CELEBRATING MARRIAGE EQUALITY IN TAIWAN

LIVE CHAT - GO TO ROOM

CELEBRATING MARRIAGE EQUALITY IN TAIWAN

image

The Supreme Court of Taiwan has issued a ruling that the government must guarantee marriage equality for its citizens. Once finalized, Taiwan will become the first country in Asia with such a law. Grindr would like to congratulate the countless activists who have worked tirelessly to make this day possible over the past three decades.

Grindr for Equality has long worked with LGBTQ organizations such as the Tongzhi Hotline (台灣同志諮詢熱線協會) and the marriage campaign in support of sexual health and human rights in the country. Most recently, we supported last winter’s mass mobilizations in Taipei, meant to show the government just how many were willing to stand up for LGBTQ people.

To learn more about the LGBTQ movement in Taiwan and the personal journey of one key activist, see “Taiwan Comes Closer To Acceptance” on our online magazine, INTO.

HERE’S WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW REGARDING YOUR HIV STATUS DATAGrindr…

LIVE CHAT - GO TO ROOM

HERE’S WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW REGARDING YOUR HIV STATUS DATAGrindr…

HERE’S WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW REGARDING YOUR HIV STATUS DATA

Grindr has never sold, nor will we ever sell, personal user information – especially information regarding HIV status or last test date – to third parties or advertisers.

We have no reason to believe there has been a malicious hack or a privacy breach at Grindr.

Grindr’s mission is to provide a safe and secure space for queer people anywhere to connect to and discover their world. As a company that serves the LGBTQ community, we understand the sensitivities around HIV status. Over the last couple days, we have listened and engaged with our community. As a result, we have taken steps to discontinue sharing HIV status information with our trusted vendors, Apptimize and Localytics. Privacy is and always will be one of our top priorities. We know that there has been confusion about this, and we apologize for the distress caused to any of our users.

In the nine years since our founding in 2009, we have come to understand the greater responsibility we have to the community we serve. While our goal has always been to protect our users, we created Grindr for Equality to leverage our resources and lead in the fight to promote justice, health, and safety for LGBTQ individuals around the globe. In 2016, after consulting several international health organizations and our Grindr For Equality team, we determined that it would be beneficial for the health and well-being of our community to give users the option to publish, at their discretion, their HIV status and their “Last Tested Date” to their public profile.

Recently, there have been concerns raised about Grindr’s sharing of HIV status information with two companies that help us test our app and improve its functions for our users.  Apptimize and Localytics are two highly-regarded software vendors which help us improve the experience for our users. They take our users’ privacy seriously, and so do we.

We want to assure you that:

  1. Grindr has never sold, nor will we ever sell, personal user information – especially information regarding HIV status or last test date – to third parties or advertisers.
  2. No advertisers have ever had access to HIV status or last test date, unless they viewed it in your public profile.
  3. The HIV status and last test date information was used by Apptimize and Localytics only to provide services to Grindr.
  4. When working with these vendors, we restricted data shared to that which was appropriate for the services they are providing and encrypted it when providing it to the contractors.  This data from HIV status fields was used to test and support development of a new features, like our recently released HIV Test Reminders.
  5. Users remain in control of any and all information they choose to share on their public Grindr profile.
  6. We have no reason to believe there has been a malicious hack or a privacy breach at Grindr.

As a champion for the LGBTQ community, Grindr recognizes – and has always recognized – that it is up to each person to determine whether they want to publicly disclose their HIV status.  We respect each person’s decision whether to keep that information private, or whether to publicly disclose that information in their Grindr public profile. We know that enabling conversations about sexual health is as important as it is difficult.  And as always, we continue to look for ways to ensure Grindr remains a safe space for all.

– Scott Chen CTO and Grindr Family

FAQs

Does Grindr sell any of my information to advertisers?

  • Grindr has never sold, nor will we ever sell, users profiles  – especially information regarding HIV status or last test date – to third parties or advertisers.

What personal user profile data does Grindr share with third-parties?

  • Grindr does not share users’ profiles with anyone outside of Grindr and select trusted contractors that help us build, maintain, and improve the app and provide its features to our users’ profiles, or as otherwise described in our Privacy Policy.

  • In response to recent concerns, Grindr no longer includes HIV status in the data that our trusted contractors may see. From now on, HIV status will not be provided to even our trusted partners (other than those essential vendors involved in the viewing and hosting of profiles in the App).

  • We have removed any data regarding HIV status from both Apptimize and Localytics.

Who are Apptimize, Localytics and how does Grindr work with them?

  • Apptimize is an industry standard and trusted software vendor that helps developers test out new features by rolling them out incrementally to an app’s user profile base over time.  They do not sell data and are not an advertising or marketing firm.

  • In this instance, Grindr used Apptimize to help test and deploy new features within our app, like our recent “HIV Testing Reminder” feature. Grindr has deleted all HIV status and related information from Apptimize.

  • Localytics is another ubiquitous and trusted software vendor that helps developers monitor how their application is used. They also do not sell data, only handle encrypted data, and are not an advertising or marketing firm.

  • In this instance, Grindr used Localytics to confirm that the new features were not causing problems with the functioning of the Grindr app. The HIV status data that Grindr provided to Localytics was encrypted. Grindr has removed HIV data from Localytics.

Who has access to my HIV status?

  • If you opt-in to include this information in your Grindr profile, your information will be visible to other Grindr users. See our privacy policy.

Can advertisers target Grindr users based on HIV status?

  • NO!  Grindr has never sold, nor will we ever sell, users’ profiles – especially information regarding HIV status or last test date – to third parties or advertisers.

  • We have not and will never share users’ self-reported HIV information with any advertisers.

Why were you sharing my HIV status with third-parties?

  • Grindr has never sold, nor will we ever sell, users’ profiles – especially information regarding HIV status or last test date – to third parties or advertisers.

  • As is customary in the industry, Grindr works with a few highly-regarded vendors to test and optimize the Grindr app. These third-parties had limited access to users’ profile data to support the rollout of new features and other site maintenance activities.

  • These trusted vendors are contractually obligated to use users’ profile data only to provide services to Grindr.

  • Our diagnostic tools support the rollout of new features and other site maintenance and DO NOT capture or store any users’ profile data regarding HIV status.

Has anyone gained access to my profile data on Grindr?

  • We have no reason to believe there has been a malicious hack or a privacy breach at Grindr.

  • We authorize only appropriate Grindr employees and trusted contractors to access your profile data, all of whom are bound by appropriate privacy and confidentiality terms.

  • We also reserve the right to share data as described in our Privacy Policy.  Again, however, we never have – and never will – share HIV status information with advertisers or sell profile data.

  • If you include information in your Grindr profile, including HIV status, it is visible to other Grindr users.

Where can I find your privacy policy?

  • A copy of our privacy policy can be found on our app or here.

Share your pronouns on your OkCupid profile

Share your pronouns on your OkCupid profile

Match over what matters to you

Now your OkCupid profile has a dedicated space where you can share your pronouns with potential matches.

OkCupid is proud to be the first and only leading dating app to create a dedicated space on profiles for LGBTQ daters to share their pronouns. Pronouns now appear right along with the other critical attributes that make you who you are, including your gender and sexual orientation. At OkCupid our goal is to empower daters to match on what matters to them and a dedicated space for your pronouns is an important way to share your authentic self and form meaningful relationships with deep human connections.

At OkCupid, we aim to provide a fun, affirming experience for all members. To ensure this new feature accurately represents and empowers members wanting to share their pronouns, we collaborated with GLAAD, a leader itself in the promotion of LGBTQ acceptance.

“Everyone should be able to express who they are, in their own words, and to have the opportunity to find romance with someone who respects and appreciates them,” said GLAAD Vice President of Programs Zeke Stokes. “By creating a dedicated space for personal pronouns on profiles, OkCupid has taken an important step forward that raises the bar for LGBTQ-inclusion on dating apps.”

If you want to share your pronouns on your OkCupid profile, here’s how:

Now you can add your pronouns to your profile.
  • This feature is available to non-binary people and other members of the LGBTQ community. Make sure you’ve selected your gender(s). You can do this by going to your profile and clicking on profile details (where you also enter your sexual orientation, relationship status, etc).
  • Once you’ve done this, you can update your pronouns on your profile (by the 📣) by either selecting a dropdown option (he/him, she/her, they/them) or typing in whatever pronouns you want — you can also remove pronouns here by selecting (leave this blank).
  • If you’ve entered your pronouns, they will show up in your details section for all other members who see your profile.

Match over what matters to you on OkCupid right now.

OkCupid’s new ACLU #RightToLove badge helps you filter for dates looking for love — and justice

OkCupid’s new ACLU #RightToLove badge helps you filter for dates looking for love — and justice

In response to the Masterpiece Supreme Court decision, we’ve teamed up with the ACLU so you can easily find people who support the non-profit

Update 10/29/18: The ACLU #RightToLove Badge is back by popular demand! Just in time for the midterm elections, the badge’s return means you can find dates who will be voting in support of the same things you are. The badge will be available for the next three months.

At OkCupid, we match people over what they care about. As it turns out, the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) is one of those things that really matters to them. Ninety percent of the OkCupid users who responded to the question “Do you support the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU)?” said “yes.” That’s one of the highest agreement percentages of all of our thousands of questions.

Ninety percent of the OkCupid users who responded to the question “Do you support the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU)?” said “yes.”
All OkCupid users who publicly answer “yes” to the ACLU question will receive the #RightToLove profile badge.

It’s not surprising that so many of our users support the ACLU. First, the non-profit does amazing work to protect all individuals’ civil rights — fighting for LGBTQ rights, women’s rights, and the rights of those who are incarcerated, to just name a few. In fact, the ACLU is currently tirelessly working on the Masterpiece case after the Supreme Court’s ruling on the LGBTQ rights case earlier this week. At OkCupid, we also have a long history of inclusion, being the first dating app to offer 22 gender and 12 orientation options.

Secondly, in today’s political climate, people care more about their dates sharing their political and social beliefs than ever before; our data shows that differing beliefs on both are the biggest dating deal breakers today. So to help the majority of OkCupid users who want to find a date looking for love (and justice), today we’re introducing the #RightToLove profile badge in partnership with the ACLU. With the recent Supreme Court decision on Masterpiece, and June being LGBT Pride Month, there’s no better time to celebrate, and fight for, everyone’s right to love.

All users in the U.S. who publicly answer “yes” to the ACLU question will receive the badge. Responses to our questions have always worked to inform our algorithm and connect people over what’s important to them, but the #RightToLove badge will make it even easier for daters to connect with other supporters. The badge not only highlights their support on their profiles, but it will also promote supporters to one another.

Knowing your date supports the ACLU says a lot more about them than just that.

It’s not just support for the ACLU that these badge holders will likely share. Daters who support the ACLU are four times more likely to consider themselves feminist (and are looking to date a feminist, too). They’re also twice as likely to have responded “Hell no” to our question “Trump?” and 30% more likely to believe in climate change. So filtering for one deal breaker can end up saving you some time on filtering for other deal breakers (and makers) as well.

Wouldn’t you rather date someone who wears cargo shorts (and actually puts stuff in the pockets) than someone who doesn’t support basic human rights? The #RightToLove badge won’t just make you feel better about yourself and your matches — for every OkCupid user with the badge, we’ll donate a dollar to the ACLU, up to $50,000. “At OkCupid, we’re proud to be a champion of inclusivity because we believe you should be able to love whomever you want, regardless of your gender, sexual orientation, or ethnicity,” says Ariel Charytan, OkCupid’s CEO. “Nothing is more attractive than people who believe in every individual’s #RightToLove who they want to love.”

If you’d like to connect with someone who supports the ACLU, answer the question publicly here. The badge will be available through the summer so you can find great dates, no matter what you’re looking for.

OkCupid lets you meet people based on what you care about. Sign up today.

Billboards promoting the final season have now started popping up, and one on Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles features a giant image of David (played by Dan Levy) kissing love interest Patrick (played by Noah Reid). The two characters got engaged in the last season of the show.

An image of one such billboard was photographed by comic Jack Kelly and posted to Instagram.

Levy saw the image and re-shared it, with the message: “F*ck yes we did. Shine bright, friends. Very grateful for @poptv and @cbc and their support on this campaign that my teenage self would never have dreamed to be true. ✌🏼❤😘

Levy is gay in real life. He stars in the show alongside his real-life dad, Eugene Levy.

The Canadian sitcom, which garnered four Emmy nominations earlier this year and scooped a GLAAD award for Dan Levy, follows the misadventures of the once-wealthy Rose family as they try to recover after losing their fortune. Their only option: move to the tiny city of Schitt’s Creek, which they bought as a joke birthday gift for their son in the early 1990s.

It airs on CBC in Canada and Pop TV in the US. The show has included several LGBTQ storylines in its previous five seasons.

“Schitt’s Creek has become a pop culture phenomenon fueled by the most talented cast and the most passionate fans in all of television, and the final season is sure to be weekly must-watch TV as we see what happens to the Roses,” Pop TV president Brad Schwartz said when the final season was announced.

“It is gut-wrenching to say goodbye, but we know this final season will deliver even more of the heart and humor that has made the series one of the best ever.”

The show has picked up a large LGBTQ following. Earlier this week, at a Schitt’s Creek pop-up promotion in New York City. The recreations of the Schitt’s Creek set – specifically Rose Apothecary – provided the perfect backdrop for one man to get down on his knee and propose to his boyfriend.

“I felt that the Schitt’s Creek pop-up was the perfect spot to express my commitment,” John told People of his proposal to partner Jonathan. “We bonded over the true meaning of the show like thousands of others have. This was by far the most special night of our lives.”
