Tržní kapitalizace společnosti Disney se snížila o téměř 34 miliard dolarů, od té doby, co společnost vyjádřila svůj plný odpor k floridskému zákonu zakazujícímu výuku genderové identity a sexuální orientace ve veřejných školách pro mateřské školy až do třetího ročníku.
Floridští zákonodárci v březnu schválili HB 1557, který odpůrci nazvali „Neříkej gay“ zákon, který 28. března podepsal guvernér Floridy Ron DeSantis.
Téhož dne se společnost Disney hluboce ponořila do kontroverze a vydala prohlášení, které bylo velmi kritizující k HB 1557, přičemž uvedla, že cílem společnosti je zrušení tohoto zákona. Od 28. března, v den, kdy společnost vydala prohlášení, do 22. dubna, tržní kapitalizace společnosti Disney klesla zhruba o 33,9 miliardy dolarů.
Zastánci legislativy tvrdí, že dává rodičům větší pravomoc při rozhodování o tom, jak a kdy mohou být témata týkající se LGBT problematiky představena jejich dětem. Dává také rodičům možnost žalovat školní obvody za porušení pravidel stanovených v legislativě.
„Výuka ve třídě ze strany zaměstnanců školy nebo třetích stran o sexuální orientaci nebo genderové identitě nesmí probíhat v mateřské škole až do 3. ročníku nebo způsobem, který není přiměřený věku nebo je vývojově nevhodný pro žáky v souladu se státními normami,“ opatření si můžete přečíst zde.
