Witness the rare, gay double-proposal that went viral

We’ve seen our fair share of sweet wedding proposals, but never the elusive double-ring.

That all changed when Reddit user ihopebolsonarodies shared a video from a trip to the amusement park that he’ll surely be showing his grandkids one day.

Posted in the ‘Unexpected’ sub, the clip shows one man getting down on his knee to pop the question.

His boyfriend pauses, then runs to his bag where he produces, you guessed it, a second ring.

The new take on an old classic struck a chord. The post has been upvoted 98K times and has received over 4.7K comments.

We’re pretty sure they each said ‘yes.’

Antigay pastor accused of having taste for “good-looking, thin, fit young men” in damning report

Antigay pastor accused of having taste for “good-looking, thin, fit young men” in damning report

An antigay Anglican priest from Florida is accused of having an insatiable appetite for “good-looking, thin, and fit young men,” according to a damning new report.

Eric Dudley, a married father of three, spent his entire career railing against the evils of homosexuality. He served as rector at St. John’s Episcopal Church from 1995 to 2005 before shocking the congregation by abruptly leaving to start his own church, St. Peter’s Anglican Church, where he preached until last year, when he resigned in disgrace amid multiple gay sexual misconduct allegations.

Godly Response to Abuse in the Christian Environment (GRACE), an independent group that helps churches investigate abuse inquiries, was tasked with researching the matter. This week, the group released the report’s findings and they’re pretty damning.

GRACE spoke to over 50 alleged victims and witnesses and pored over pages and pages of text messages and emails, ultimately finding that “the reported victims’ accounts often corroborated each other, even though they were not aware of other reported victims at the time.”

One of the alleged victims said Dudley came on to him inside a hotel room during a work trip. He claims Dudley booked a room with only one bed then blamed it on a front desk error. That night, he awoke to find Dudley caressing his body.

“Part of me is going like, ‘This is super strange,’” he told investigators. “And another part is going, ‘This can’t be happening.’”

“Eric is known as the guy who hates gay people. We’re the church that built our church based on anti-homosexuality. He kind of has a caricature out there, so no way this guy is coming on to me. I’m misreading him.”

Another alleged victim said Dudley used the same trick on him, booking a single-bed hotel room and blaming it on the front desk, and then molesting him in the middle of the night. He awoke to find Dudley, wearing just his underwear, fondling him beneath the sheets.

A third alleged victim claimed Dudley also used the single-bed trick on him and, when he awoke, found him lying on top of him with an erection.

And a fourth alleged victim said Dudley not only tried the single-bed trick on him, but also made a pass on him at his house.

The man claims he was showing Dudley his new bed when Dudley told him to lie down. The man did and Dudley climbed on top of him, kissing and undressing him. That’s when the man pushed him off and Dudley stormed out.

The next day, Dudley called the man and begged him to run off with him to California, saying, “I’m not gay. I’m not into that. I just, I need your, I’m an affectionate person. I need to be touched by you.”

Other allegations against Dudley include him obsessively texting a young man then showing up at his house when he didn’t respond, walking around half naked at a church retreat, and exploding into anger anytime he was criticized.

Dudley’s behavior didn’t go unnoticed by others either.

One witness told investigators that she observed “a pattern of young males that seemed to have captured our rector’s eye.” Another said Dudley was drawn to “good-looking, thin, and fit young men.”

The GRACE report concludes by recommending the church update its policies on sexual misconduct and create a system for addressing abuse and assisting victims. Meanwhile, church officials say Dudley’s alleged victims are receiving financial compensation and counseling for the abuse they suffered.

Meet TV’s black, gay superhero: Hooded Justice

Meet TV’s black, gay superhero: Hooded Justice

Captain Metropolis & Hooded Justice

History–or in this case, alternate history–marches on, at least on HBO. The network’s acclaimed series Watchmen just had a watershed moment through the introduction of Hooded Justice/Will Reeves, an openly gay African American superhero.

For the uninformed, Watchmen follows the moral quandaries of an alternate timeline, one in which superheroes emerged in real life in the 1930s and 40s. Rather than having a positive effect on society, however, their existence wreaked havoc on the world, especially after the creation of the God-like being Dr. Manhattan. By 2019, the Tulsa, Oklahoma police department consists entirely of costumed officers, including Sister Night (played by Regina King) who stumbles onto another sinister plot involving Dr. Manhattan, a conspiracy of silence, and an alt-right militia group.

Sunday’s episode, titled “This Extraordinary Being,” (spoiler alert!) explores the history of Sister Night’s grandfather, revealed to be the first African-American police officer in Tulsa, Will Reeves (played by Jovan Adepo). Persecuted by his fellow officers and the Tulsa community, he dons the costumed identity Hooded Justice, avenging crime around the city. Hooded Justice also attracts the interest of another costumed hero, Captain Metropolis (Jake McDorman). When the two meet, they begin a torrid affair…and the show makes its first major misstep.

We should mention here that the identity and backstory of Hooded Justice deviate from that of the source novel, written by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons. In the original text, the Hooded Justice-Captain Metropolis relationship is one of the bright spots in a gritty, lonely story. Theirs is a pure love affair, and the subsequent murder of Hooded Justice sends Captain Metropolis into a downward spiral. He begins to abuse alcohol, has a nervous breakdown, and ends up institutionalized.

The alteration of the Hooded Justice identity into that of Will Reeves fits well with the TV series Watchmen‘s meditations on racism in the United States, and the show also deserves applause for having the chutzpah to explore a same-sex superhero relationship. That said, making what was a loving relationship in the source material into a fetishized, coercive one is not the best way to introduce a groundbreaking, African-American gay superhero. The TV series portrays Captain Metropolis as someone who isn’t devoted to fighting crime so much as a gay man into costumed roleplay. Furthermore, his treatment of Hooded Justice doesn’t just devalue their relationship, it makes it downright abusive.

Watchmen deserves credit for addressing issues of racism, and for integrating a terrific character like Will Reeves into its story. But the show also falls back on the trope of hypersexualized, sociopathic queer characters–the kind that functioned as villains for decades in film and television. Call it provocative, call it timely, call it powerful…but don’t call it progress.
