Strike a POSE: Groundbreaking Series Nominated for 6 Emmy Awards

The groundbreaking show “Pose” was nominated for six Emmy Awards this morning, including Best Drama Series. Billy Porter was nominated for Lead Actor in a Drama Series and the series was also nominated for several technical awards. This is Porter’s first Emmy nomination.

Laverne Cox was nominated for Guest Actress in a Drama Series for “Orange is the New Black.” Cox made history in 2014 when she was the first openly transgender actress nominated for an Emmy Award.

 “Schitt’s Creek” received four nominations. The hit show, which features gay actor Dan Levy as a pansexual small town business owner, is also nominated for Best Comedy Series.

Several other shows featuring LGBTQ characters, storylines and actors are nominated, including “Killing Eve,” “This is Us,” and gay actor Ben Whishaw from “A Very English Scandal.”

“Special,” created and starring HRC supporter Ryan O’Connell, nabbed 3 nominations

Ellen DeGeneres was also nominated for her hit show “Ellen’s Game Of Games.” Other nominees include Wanda Sykes for her Variety Special “Not Normal,” Jane Marie Lynch for her role on “Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” Hannah Gadsby for her Variety Special “Nanette” and Kate McKinnon for “Saturday Night Live” — her seventh nomination.

Reality shows “Queer Eye,” “RuPaul’s DragRace” and “RuPaul’s Drag Race: Untucked”

The nominations also recognized several longtime LGBTQ allies and HRC supporters, including Natasha Lyonne, Nick Offerman, Michael Kenneth Williams, Mandy Moore, Bradley Whitford, Patricia Arquette and Don Cheadle.
