SNL mocks people opposed to trans rights
Hopefully the residents who voted down Houston’s anti-discrimination proposal watched this weekend’s episode of Saturday Night Live. Earlier this month, the city’s Equal Rights Ordinance (HERO) failed at the ballot box.
Campaigns against the ordinance focused on the fact that it would bar discrimination in public accommodations – allowing transgender people to use bathrooms in fitting with their gender identity. Campaigners for repeal dubbed it the ‘bathroom ordinance’ and said that it would allow predatory men to use female washrooms.
During a Weekend Update segment, Pete Davidson took the comical axe to the hysteria.
‘The theory is that men, in their relentless quest to watch women go to the bathroom, are going through years of hormones, surgery, changing their name, their wardrobe, coming out to their family. All for that big payoff of peeing in a room without urinals.’
