Second Day of Time to THRIVE Provides Valuable Resources, Workshops and Trainings
Today at Time to THRIVE, conference attendees participated and led several meaningful and important workshops.
The day kicked off with an opening plenary featuring HRC Foundation’s Welcoming Schools Director Johanna Eager, Mother of Television Producer and Director, Ryan Murphy, Andy Murphy and HIV advocate and youth speaker Deondre Moore.
Additionally this morning, HRC Foundation, the National Education Association and the National Coalition Against Censorship announced an initiative to host I Am Jazz readings nationwide as part of a bold call to action to support transgender youth.
The rest of the day was filled with several workshops and trainings. Time to THRIVE had three workshop tracks this year, each focusing on three of the major concerns facing LGBTQ youth — HIV & AIDS education and prevention, the intersectional nature of LGBTQ and other identities and the unique concerns of transgender and gender-expansive youth.
A lunch discussion included J. Reymundo Ocañas EVP, Director of Corporate Responsibility and Reputation, Elliot Kennedy, Special Expert, LGBT Affairs at SAMHSA, Dr. Stephanie Zaza Director, Division of Adolescent and School Health at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Rafael Lopez,Commissioner of the Administration of Children, Youth and Families at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and HRC Foundation Youth Ambassadors Monique Ross and Paolo Veloso.
