Open Question: What is with this lie that Americans value freedom?
Freedom for the rich white male. That’s all there was in the beginning of our nation. We were the last major nation to end slavery. There have been constant struggles for people to gain more freedom. From originally the non-property owners who couldn’t vote in the beginning of the nation, to the LGBT community today who still is missing some rights.
As a society we still pressure people to conform. A people who values freedom would not do this. Men are pressured to be masculine, or else be called “girly” or “gay” as an insult.
Yet we Americans claim freedom is a value? Since when? Not to mention, our freedom is highly inhibited to be able to move up in class status, given a vast majority of new wealth goes to the top 1% still.
We still favor the wealthy. Our value is one of conformity, silence, and being subordinate to the 1%
