I am a student in college, and when my teacher corrects our essays, he puts a check mark by sentences that use passive voice and has us fix it and I cant figure out how to fix the sentences… can someone help me??:( there are 7 passive voice check marks and I will post them below. (essay on the gay rights movement) PV=Passive Voice

1. Being lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender has always been frowned upon and told it was “un-American”, thus causing them to be unable to do many things other Americans were. (1 Pv check in this sentence)

2. Even though the LGBT community has been treated like pariahs for centuries, they never stopped fighting for their rights to be treated equally and with respect. (2 PV checks in this sentence)

3. Not only did this law make it pointless for them to be in bars since they were unable to be served, but it also made it to where they were strongly advised against being allowed in as many signs outside of the bars said, “If you’re gay, stay away”. (1 PV check)

4. Homosexuals were allowed to be attracted to whomever they desired, as it was not illegal, but many laws and opinions of others almost made it feel like it was. (1 PV check)

5. Homosexuals were pin pointed and put down, which emotionally affected many people. (1 PV check)

6. They started to develop strategies that contradicted the images that were meant to portray homosexuals as being sad, hopeless, mentally disturbed individuals who posed a threat to society. (1 PV check)
