New Hampshire House passes transgender non-discrimination bill

NEW YORK – GLAAD, the world’s largest LGBTQ media advocacy organization, released the following statement celebrating the New Hampshire House for passing HB 1319, a bill which would make the state’s non-discrimination law transgender-inclusive by adding protections on the basis of gender identity.

“The momentum behind the fight for equal rights in New Hampshire is growing as lawmakers and citizens alike continue to assert the importance of this transgender-inclusive legislation,” said Sarah Kate Ellis, President and CEO of GLAAD. “Faith leaders, local businesses, public safety officials and now the New Hampshire House of Representatives are collectively calling for fairness and freedom for all by working to ensure transgender people have the same vital protections against discrimination granted to all people of New Hampshire.”

HB 1319 has been gaining momentum with strong bipartisan support in both chambers, law enforcement, and faith and business leaders across the state. Currently, New Hampshire is the only state in New England that has not passed transgender-inclusive non-discrimination protections. HB 1319 now moves to the New Hampshire Senate for consideration.
