My OutReach Awards Banquet outfit

Yes, you’ve seen me in this Bisou Bisou dress, this belt, and this red hair on this Flickr photostream before. It’s the setting that’s different: Last Friday (10/6), I had the wonderful privilege of getting dolled up and attending the 25th annual OutReach Awards Banquet, which is put on by Madison’s LGBT-oriented community center and honors groups and individuals whose work has promoted equality and quality of life for the LGBT community.
It was a true honor and a thrill to be in the same room as those who have been a big and important part of Madison’s LGBT community, and to see this year’s honorees receive and accept the recognition they undoubtedly deserve. It was awesome, too, to see two shining stars of Madison’s and Wisconsin’s LGBT community, U.S. Representative Mark Pocan and U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin, deliver keynote speeches about staying strong and positive in withstanding the adversity our community has been facing here in 2017 and will, unfortunately, continue to do so in the near future.
What was truly awesome as well was the chance to share this evening with several members of the trans/CD support group I have had the privilege to become a part of in the past year. Their support and friendship have played a part in my stepping out as Allison. Without a doubt, 2017 has been the year in which I’ve stepped out the furthest from my closet’s security, and it’s been a great feeling to do so.
