Must-See LGBTQ TV: The return of ‘Wynonna Earp,’ Roxane Gay on ‘Breaking Big,’ and ‘Light in the Water’ documentary

On Thursday, Logo will air the documentary Light in the Water about the historic West Hollywood Aquatics Team (WH2O) and their place in the LGBTQ sports movement. WH2O formed out of a training group for the first Gay Games in 1982 and fought against stigma and homophobia in sports. “Swimming was about celebrating and rising above all the darkness that was around us…and striving to show the word that we are not being wiped out by an illness,” said one of the team members. Light in the Water: Thursday, 8pm on Logo.

Friday’s episode of PBS’ Breaking Big, which focuses on an individual artist or innovator each week and how they got their break, is dedicated to out bisexual author and advocate Roxane Gay. The episode will delve into Gay’s work, and how she became one of the most powerful voices in modern feminism today. Author of bestselling essay collections Bad Feminist and Hunger, Gay also penned the GLAAD Media Award recipent for Outstanding Comic Book, World of Wakanda. Breaking Big: Roxane Gay: Friday, 8:30 on PBS.

Syfy’s GLAAD Media Award-nominated science-fiction Western show Wynonna Earp is back for a third season this Friday. The show follows the titular Wynonna as she fights demons is the aptly named town of Purgatory with a ragtag crew. This includes her out bisexual sister Waverly as well as Waverly’s girlfriend, policer officer Nicole Haught. The third season promises much more of this fan favorite couple. In the season premiere, a mysterious bus full of strangers rolls into town, and Wynonna must figure out why they’re in Purgatory before the entire town falls under their spell. Wynonna Earp: Friday, 9pm on Syfy.
