Learn about gender with Katie Couric in National Geographic doc 'Gender Revolution'
Gender Revolution: A Journey with Katie Couric, airing tonight on the National Geographic channel, is a two-hour documentary that explores how gender is defined, formed, and influenced by science, society, and self – making it an excellent companion to National Geographic magazine’s January issue which is devoted entirely to covering gender all around the world.
Journalist Katie Couric travels across the United States and to Samoa to talk with experts about the role genetics, brain chemistry, and culture play in defining and forming gender identity, while also engaging in intimate conversations with transgender and gender non-conforming people and their families to better understand their personal experiences, including Gavin Grimm, the Virginia teenage trans boy whose legal case to be treated like every other boy in school, will be heard before the Supreme Court next month.
The documentary is an educational and enlightening exploration of gender, and a must-see for anyone interested in learning more about transgender people and how gender identity is defined, formed, and influenced.
The 154-page January issue of National Geographic magazine takes readers on a trip around the globe, profiling young people from the Americas to the Middle East, Africa to China about how gender is felt, viewed, shared, and shaped in cultures and local communities. One of the featured articles, “Rethinking Gender” by Robin Marantz Henig, is nominated for a 28th Annual GLAAD Media Award.
Gender Revolution: A Journey with Katie Couric premieres Monday, February 6 at 9:00 pm ET on the National Geographic channel.
Following the broadcast premiere, Katie Couric will host a Facebook Live town hall discussion, allowing viewers to submit questions and comments, as well as hear updates about people seen in the documentary. The conversation will be live streamed on the main National Geographic Facebook page.
