Kellogg's kicks off #SpiritDay with a bang!

Kellogg’s kicked off Spirit Day with a special event at the Kellogg’s Cafe in Times square. The event featured a signature “Official Spirit Day Bowl,” consisting of Frosted Flakes with fresh blueberries, lemon zest, and blueberry jam that turns the milk a delicious purple. The event also featured special guest and America’s Got Talent finalist Brian Justin Crum, who performed live and shared his personal story about how bullying affected his life. Tony the Tiger even made a surpise appearance!

“At Kellogg’s, we are committed to supporting all children and teens in having a safe and bright future. We are thrilled to join GLAAD’s Spirit Day and stand against bullying and show our support for LGBTQ youth,” says Mark King, Chief Diversity & Inclusion Office at Kellogg’s.

Additionally, Kellogg’s and 10 of its iconic brands proudly went purple on social media, encouraging followers to share their personal stories. Kellogg’s employees also showed their support for Spirit Day in a video voicing their support for anti-bullying initiatives. 

“We are thrilled to be partnering with Kellogg’s for Spirit Day to take a stand against bullying,” said Sarah Kate Ellis, GLAAD President & CEO. “When LGBTQ young people see support from a company that has been a staple in their lives for years, it sends a strong message of acceptance that truly resonates.”

Each year, millions of people “go purple” for Spirit Day in a united stand against bullying and to show support for LGBTQ youth. According to a 2015 GLSEN survey, more than half of LGBTQ students report being victimized based on sexual orientation, with a further three quarters of students who report hearing anti-LGBTQ remarks in school. Started in 2010 by high school student Brittany McMillan, Spirit Day now draws the participation of celebrities, corporations, media outlets, sports leagues, schools, faith institutions, national landmarks, and individuals around the world, who join together in a united stand against bullying.
