Join Saturday solidarity rally at Stonewall resisting Trump's discriminatory orders
Saturday afternoon at the historic Stonewall Inn, GLAAD is among numerous advocacy organizations and public officials hosting an LGBT Solidarity Rally in New York City to show support for equality and acceptance and resist the Presidential administration’s discriminatory actions against immigrants, asylum seekers, refugees, and more, including the reported sweeping “License to Discriminate” executive order.
“We stand in solidarity with every immigrant, asylum seeker, refugee and every person impacted by Donald Trump’s illegal, immoral, unconstitutional and un-American executive orders,” states the rally’s event page.
The rally will take place at 2 PM ET on Saturday at Stonewall Inn, the site of the historic uprising in 1969 that many consider the start of the modern LGBTQ movement. The first LGBTQ national monument, Stonewall is where many LGBTQ locals gather in times of communal celebration–like when marriage equality became the law of the land in 2015–and crisis, like the aftermath of the horrific attack on Pulse Nightclub in Orlando, Florida.
WHAT TRUMP’S “LICENSE TO DISCRIMINATE” EXECUTIVE ORDER COULD MEAN FOR LGBTQ AMERICANS:
1) Employers without penalty may fire an LGBTQ person from their job because of religious freedom.
2) Child welfare and adoption services without penalty may deny LGBTQ couples the ability to adopt children.
3) Health care providers without penalty may deny LGBTQ people, notably women and trans people, critical services that are important to their health needs.
4) Schools without penalty may openly discriminate against LGBTQ teachers, faculty, and students.
5) Government officials without penalty may deny LGBTQ people services – including county clerks who issue marriage licenses for couples.
6) Businesses without penalty may deny LGBTQ people services, including pharmacies, restaurants, beauty salons, sporting events, etc.
