Each year, GLAAD organizes hundreds of celebrities, media outlets, brands, landmarks, sports leagues, tech leaders, influencers, faith groups, school districts, organizations, colleges and universities to wear purple or go purple online for Spirit Day, the most visible anti-LGBTQ bullying campaign and unitfied show of support for LGBTQ young people. You can pledge to go purple, which symbolizes spirit on the rainbow flag, tomorrow for Spirit Day

CNBC has participated in Spirit Day since it began in 2010 and this year is once again leading news networks with its participation! This year, CNBC anchors and reporters from around the globe will wear purple tomorrow for Spirit Day. The CNBC logo will appear in purple all day on-air, on CNBC.com, and on social media. CNBC employees in offices across the world will also receive purple wristbands and t-shirts.

“CNBC has been a strong supporter of Spirit Day since day one and now, from the U.S. to London to Singapore, CNBC is once again raising the bar for the industry’s participation,” said GLAAD President and CEO Sarah Kate Ellis. “Hearing the respected anchors and reporters speak about Spirit Day sends a much needed message of inclusion to LGBTQ people, parents of LGBTQ youth and other allies around the world.”

“Diversity is in our DNA. It is something that Comcast/NBCUniversal cares passionately about, and it is at the cornerstone of everything we do here at CNBC,” said Brian W. Steel, Executive Vice President, CNBC Public Relations and OUT@NBCUniversal Executive Sponsor. “Supporting LGBTQ youth is an incredibly important piece of that, and it is something we take very seriously. With the introduction of Spirit Day in 2010, we were proud to come together, as we always do, to lead the industry in supporting this critical initiative and to help put a stop to bullying for all.”

Take a look at some of the CNBC participation from previous years below!

Joining CNBC anchors and reporters will be hosts of Access, Caso Cerrado, Despierta América, E! News, the Elvis Duran Show, Entertainment Tonight, Extra, Full Frontal with Samantha Bee, Good Morning America, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Live with Kelly and Ryan, Suelta la sopa, The Talk, Un Nuevo Día, The View, and Ilia Calderón of Univision will also participate by wearing purple on Spirit Day. On-air logos of MTV, VH1, and Logo will also turn purple for the day.

About Spirit Day

Each year, millions go purple for GLAAD’s Spirit Day to support LGBTQ youth in a united stand against bullying. Started in 2010 by high school student Brittany McMillan in response to numerous young LGBTQ lives lost to suicide, Spirit Day now draws the participation of celebrities, schools, faith institutions, national landmarks, corporations, media outlets, sports leagues, and advocates around the world, all joining together to stand against bullying and support LGBTQ youth.

Presenting partners Hilton, Target, and Wells Fargo, official partners Johnson & Johnson, the NBA and WNBA, as well as supporting partners Kellogg’s, Barilla, and Kirkland & Ellis will all participate in the anti-bullying campaign.

As anti-LGBTQ policies, hate crimes, and harassment are on the rise, it is now especially important to let all marginalized youth know they are supported.

This year, Spirit Day is on October 18, 2018. Take the Spirit Day pledge to show LGBTQ youth you’ve got their backs at glaad.org/spiritday. Follow @GLAAD on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and Tumblr to keep up to date with #SpiritDay news.
