Organizers of HRC Foundation’s annual Chefs for Equality food and cocktail event announced that six D.C.-area restaurants are pledging to donate a portion of their proceeds from the month of October to the HRC Foundation, the educational arm of the nation’s largest LGBTQ civil rights organization.

For the fifth consecutive year, Chefs for Equality will bring together the capital region’s top chefs, pastry chefs and mixologists for an evening of food, cocktails, music to benefit the fight for full LGBTQ equality. The event will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 26 at The Ritz-Carlton, Washington, D.C. in the West End. In addition to impressive fare, an extraordinary auction to help raise critical funds will also be held.
Following the introduction of The Equality Act last year, this year’s Chefs for Equality theme is “Equality Street USA” in response to the deluge of anti-LGBTQ bills filed across the country. Despite tremendous progress made, LGBTQ people still face unfair and unjust discrimination in far too many places throughout the nation. And with more than 200 anti-LGBTQ pieces of legislation introduced in 34 states this year, the work of HRCF is more important than ever before. Even with nationwide marriage equality, 31 states lack explicit protections against discrimination in employment, housing and public accommodations on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity.
