POLICE IN JACKSONVILLE, FLORIDA, ARREST MAN IN BRUTAL ATTACK FRIDAY ON PERSON BELIEVED TO BE LGBTQ: Eric Shaun Bridges is charged with attempted murder in connection with the attack on the person, who was severely beaten and “tied to the bumper of a minivan and dragged for two blocks before the rope was cut and the victim was left lying in the street,” reports News4Jax. The horrific crime came just days after police made an arrest in one of three fatal attacks on transgender women in Jacksonville last year. More from CBS47 and News4Jax.
ICYMI — AMERICAN MEDICAL ASSOCIATION DECLARES VIOLENCE AGAINST TRANS PEOPLE AN EPIDEMIC: So far in 2019, advocates have tracked at least 18 violent deaths of transgender people; 17 of these victims have been Black transgender women. More from Axios.
- Arrest made in case of trans violence in Washington, D.C.: Besufikad Beshanu Tujuba, 23, has been charged with robbery and simple assault after attacking two transgender women, making transphobic comments and stealing one of the victims’ purses. More from Washington Blade.
