HRC KICKS OFF PROJECT THRIVE, A GROUNDBREAKING CAMPAIGN TO SUPPORT LGBTQ YOUTH: Today, the HRC Foundation and more than 16 of the nation’s largest national organizations committed to the well-being of young people are launching Project THRIVE, a multi-year, coast-to-coast effort focused on improving the lives of LGBTQ youth at home, in school and in their communities. HRC President Chad Griffin (@ChadHGriffin), Jay Brown (@ThisIsJayBrown), HRC SVP of Programs, Research & Training and Ellen Kahn (@ellenbkahn), director of HRC Foundation’s Children, Youth and Families Program, hosted an event this morning at HRC headquarters, where they were joined by featured speakers including NEA President Lily Eskelsen García (@Lily_NEA), ACA president Dr. Simone Lambert (@drsimonelambert) and HRC Board Member and Member of HRC’s Parents for Transgender Equality Council Jodie Patterson (@jodie_GeorgiaNY). THIS MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS MONTH, HRC OFFERS THREE WAYS TO COMBAT STIGMA IN LGBTQ COMMUNITIES: LGBTQ people are nearly three times as likely as others to experience a mental health condition such as anxiety or a mood disorder, and breaking the silence is key to reducing stigma and empowering each other to seek help and support when needed.
