HHS REMOVES RESOURCES FOR LESBIAN AND BISEXUAL WOMEN FROM WEBSITE: Yet again, the Trump-Pence Administration has been caught deleting public resources for LGBTQ people — in this case, online health care resources for lesbian and bisexual women. ALARMING — HATE CRIMES IN LOS ANGELES INCREASING, WITH TRANS PEOPLE DISPROPORTIONATELY TARGETED: According to the LAPD, the number of hate crimes increased by nearly 11 percent from 2016 to 2017. STUDENT NON-DISCRIMINATION ACT (SNDA) REINTRODUCED IN THE U.S. SENATE: “Every child in this country has a right to feel safe in their school. SNDA would provide crucial protections against discrimination for LGBTQ young people, one of the most vulnerable groups in our community,” said David Stacy, HRC government affairs director. SAFE SCHOOLS IMPROVEMENT ACT (SSIA) REINTRODUCED IN THE U.S. SENATE: It would amend the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) to require school districts in states that receive ESEA funds to adopt codes of conduct specifically prohibiting bullying and harassment, including on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity and religion. SSIA would also require that states report data on bullying and harassment to the Department of Education. More from WSET and Urban Milwaukee.
RUNAWAY AND HOMELESS YOUTH AND TRAFFICKING PREVENTION ACT (RHYTPA) REINTRODUCED IN THE U.S. SENATE: The measure would reauthorize essential Runaway and Homeless Youth Act programs, including prevention, emergency shelters, street outreach, transitional living, and assistance in rural areas. It includes an explicit non-discrimination provision that would prohibit any provider of these services from discriminating against youth based on their race, color, religion, national origin, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, or disability.
