HISTORIC — PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH (USA) POISED TO ASSERT THAT RELIGIOUS FREEDOM DOESN’T CONFER A RIGHT TO DISCRIMINATE: As Frederick Clarkson (@FredClarkson) reports, “This development comes at a time when the Trump administration has sought, in the name of religious freedom, to drastically reduce the civil rights protections accorded LGBTQ people and women’s access to reproductive health care.” The church is expected to pass a resolution at its General Assembly this week stating, in part, “The principle of religious freedom should not mean the right to discriminate against or impose one’s views upon others. In our commitment to be disciples of Jesus Christ, the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) is called to stand against oppression and in support of human dignity for all people. Because religious freedom must be ‘equal and common to all,’ as our Historic Principles further state, it cannot be maintained as a matter of privileged exemption for powerful individuals or groups.” More from Rewire.

TUESDAY TWEET: The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) YRBS Data Summary and Trends Report: 2007-2017 shows that LGB youth are disproportionately at risk for interpersonal violence, drug and alcohol use and poor mental health outcomes. The troubling findings reinforce the urgent need for federal and state initiatives to address these critical needs and reflects recent HRC data, which also shows that, due to stigma, these outcomes are worse for transgender and non-binary youth. HRC expects the CDC to add questions regarding gender identity and trans identities to future surveys. More from NPR and Slate.
