151 CONGRESSIONAL DEMOCRATS SIGN AMICUS BRIEF IN SUPPORT OF LGBTQ WORKERS: The “friend of the court” brief was filed with the U.S. Supreme Court in a trio of cases that may determine whether LGBTQ people are protected from discrimination under existing federal civil rights laws — which prohibit sex discrimination in contexts ranging from the employment to housing, health care and education. The brief was organized by Rep. David Cicilline (D-R.I.) (@davidcicilline) and Sen. Jeff Merkley (D-Ore.) (@SenJeffMerkley), chief sponsors of the Equality Act. Chris Johnson (@chrisjohnson82) reports that signers noted at the top of the brief include House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) (@SpeakerPelosi), Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) (@SenSchumer), Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) (@SenFeinstein), Sen. Patty Murray (D-Wash.) (@PattyMurray) and Rep. Jerrold Nadler (D-N.Y.) (@RepJerryNadler) More at the Washington Blade.
