IN THE FACE OF TRUMP’S DIVISIVE COMMENTS, WE REMAIN UNITED AGAINST HATE: “Many of us are all too familiar with the line ‘go back to your country,’ a hateful and xenophobic catchphrase throughout American history,” said HRC Deputy Press Secretary of Rapid Response Viet Tran (@viethoaitran) on the impact of Trump’s racist comment targeting four congresswomen of color. “Trump is blind to the reality that our nation’s diversity is what makes us stronger and more connected.” More from HRC.

ACTIVIST GEORGE JOHNSON LOOKS AT MENTAL HEALTH AT THE INTERSECTIONS OF RACE, GENDER AND SEXUAL ORIENTATION: Writes Johnson  (@IamGMJohnson), a writer and queer advocate, “I face racism and anti-Blackness on a daily basis, both intersected with homophobia, which creates a dynamic that can be dangerous to my mental health.” Read Johnson’s piece marking Minority Mental Health Month at HRC.

HRC MOURNS DENALI BERRIES STUCKEY, A TRANSGENDER WOMAN KILLED IN NORTH CHARLESTON, SOUTH CAROLINA: Stuckey, 29, was a victim of deadly gun violence on Saturday, becoming one of at least 12 transgender women to have died by violent means in the U.S. this year. A vigil in her memory will be held today at 8 p.m. at the Equality Hub in North Charleston. “I am heartbroken and outraged by the news of yet another murder of one of our transgender community members,” said AFFA Executive Director Chase Glenn. “Denali is the third known black trans woman to have been murdered in South Carolina since 2018.” Read more from TransGriot, LGBTQ Nation and WCIV.

MORNING MUST-READ IN TODAY’S DALLAS MORNING NEWS — THE POWERFUL BUSINESS VOICE FOR LGBTQ AMERICANS: Writes LGBTQ advocate and policy strategist Bob Witeck (@Bob_Witeck), “Business leaders often prove the crucial edge in state legislatures or city councils by insisting on fair, inclusive business climates and by helping defeat harmful anti-LGBTQ measures. Behind the scenes, and in coalitions, they never shied away from battles in Indiana, North Carolina and Arkansas, to name a handful. This spring, in Tennessee, we saw Amazon defend the right of same-sex couples to adopt  and also safeguard transgender kids in schools. American Airlines has consistently opposed anti-LGBTQ discrimination in Texas.” Read more at The Dallas Morning News.

HRC’S LUCAS ACOSTA (@LucasRAcosta) ON PRESIDENTIAL HOPEFULS’ DECISION TO INCLUDE PRONOUNS IN TWITTER BIOS: “Stating your pronouns publicly as a cisgender ally sends a strong signal of support to transgender and non-binary people that they are seen, accepted and supported. During a time when the Trump-Pence administration has attacked LGBTQ Americans in nearly every facet of their lives, Warren and Castro’s actions show their commitment to speaking to and engaging our community. We think this is a best practice for all campaigns at every level.” More from NBC.
