HRC TO HONOR ACTRESS JAMIE CLAYTON, TEACHER SAM LONG AT 7th ANNUAL TIME TO THRIVE CONFERENCE: Singer and songwriter Shea Diamond will also perform at the Feb. 14 opening event, and U.S. Congresswomen Angie Craig (D-Minn.) and Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-D.C.) will be featured speakers. Clayton stars as Tess Van De Berg in Showtime’s “The L Word: Generation Q,” and her authentic performances have resonated with audiences, especially LGBTQ youth, throughout her acting career. Sam Long, a biology teacher at Standley Lake High School in Westminster, Colorado, is the co-founder of Colorado Transgender/Nonbinary Educators Network. GOV OPPOSING STATE’S ANTI-LGBTQ LEGISLATION: It allows child welfare organizations to turn away qualified Tennesseans seeking to care for a child in need, including LGBTQ couples, interfaith couples, single parents, married couples in which one prospective parent has previously been divorced or other parents to whom the agency has a religious objection. CHICAGO TRIBUNE ANALYSIS FINDS THAT REPORTED HATE CRIMES ARE ON THE RISE IN CHICAGO, INCLUDING THOSE TARGETING LGBTQ PEOPLE: “LGBT people have been the target of more reported hate crimes than any group in Chicago over the last eight years: 159,” writes reporter Dan Hinkel (@dhinkel). “That also was true [in 2019].
