TODAY AT 1:30 PM ET — PRESS CALL AHEAD OF HISTORIC EQUALITY ACT MARKUP: The coalition to pass the Equality Act — including HRC, the National Center for Transgender Equality, the National Women’s Law Center and the Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights — will hold a national press call highlighting the critical need and unprecedented support for The Equality Act today. The press call will take place ahead of Wednesday’s House Judiciary Committee vote on the historic LGBTQ civil rights legislation, a crucial step toward passage of the law.

HRC SENDS LETTER TO SENATE OPPOSING ROBERT DESTRO NOMINATION FOR ASSISTANT SECRETARY OF STATE FOR DEMOCRACY, HUMAN RIGHTS AND LABOR: Writes HRC Government Affairs Director David Stacy (@david_stacy): “Throughout his career, Mr. Destro has focused a great deal of his writings on rejecting advances for LGBTQ human rights, a position which puts him at odds with the Secretary of State’s stated positions ‘affirming the dignity and equality of all people regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, or sex characteristics.’” Read the full letter here.
