THIS WEEKEND IN DC — TRUMP-PENCE FLAUNT ANTI-LGBTQ ‘VALUES’ WHILE KAINE SPEAKS OUT FOR EQUALITY : The Trump-Pence campaign will be courting anti-LGBTQ activists today and tomorrow at the so-called “Values Voter Summit” in Washington, D.C. In a marked contrast, the same weekend that Trump and Pence will address the gathering of the nation’s top anti-LGBTQ extremists, Democratic Vice Presidential Candidate Tim Kaine is set to speak out for equality at the 20th annual HRC National Dinner across town on Saturday evening. Trump is slated to speak at 3 p.m. today and Pence at 11:35 a.m. Saturday. HRC will host a Tweet Up to give facts about the event on Twitter, using the hashtags #NotOurValues and #VVS2016. HRC has also released a snapchat filter that will be geo-targeted to the area near the Omni Shoreham, the“Values Voters Summit” host hotel. More here.

MEANWHILE … HRC’s 20th ANNUAL NATIONAL DINNER TO FEATURE EQUALITY ADVOCATES TIM KAINE & JOHN LEWIS: Tomorrow, more than 3,600 people will gather in Washington, D.C.. for the 20th annual HRC National Dinner, bringing together LGBTQ advocates, leaders, allies, and champions from across the nation. Democratic Vice Presidential nominee Tim Kaine will deliver the keynote address, and civil rights hero Rep. John Lewis (D-GA) will also speak. “With all the progress we have made under President Obama, Tim Kaine and John Lewis will remind all of us just how important it is that we fight to elect a President who will champion LGBTQ equality every single day she sits in the Oval Office,” said HRC President Chad Griffin. “We are honored to welcome them both to our 20th annual National Dinner.” Tony Award-winning artist Billy Porter (@TheeBillyPorter) and Grammy Award-winning artist Estelle (@EstelleDarlings) will perform; special guests include Secretary of the Army Eric Fanning (@SECARMY), the first openly gay leader of a U.S. military service.

HILLARY CLINTON BLASTS DISCRIMINATORY HB2 DURING NC EVENT: Hillary Clinton minced no words yesterday in laying out the terrible damage being done to North Carolina by the anti-LGBTQ HB2 law championed by Gov. Pat McCrory. Said Clinton: “HB2 is another example of trying to discriminate against people that doesn’t have any place in our modern society. You’ve seen this first hand in North Carolina — discrimination is not only wrong, it’s bad for business. The NBA, you know, cancelled the game. PayPal cancelled bringing I think 400 jobs. Others are not coming to this beautiful state because they don’t want to be associated with the discriminatory, bigoted policies of your governor and legislature. Now one thing you can do about that is change your governor in November! And while you’re at it, change one of your senators. We’re going to need reinforcements up in Washington.” Watch it here.

  • Sign o’ the times as McCrory plays the HB2 blame game… North Carolina’s WRAL reports that McCrory is now claiming that the North Carolina Chamber of Commerce helped write the dangerous HB2 law. One problem — the station reports that the claim from McCrory is “something the North Carolina Chamber has denied for months. The statement appears to put the Republican, who is seeking re-election this fall, directly at odds with the state’s largest business lobby…” More from WRAL.
