TIME TO SAY #NOMOORE TO BIGOTRY: Today, notoriously anti-LGBTQ Alabama Supreme Court Chief Justice Roy Moore faces a hearing to determine whether he should be removed from the bench for his more than decade-long pattern of unethical, extralegal actions — from his Ten Commandments crusade in 2001 to his present-day obstructionist tactics aimed at preventing marriage equality in Alabama. #VOCALMAJORITY FOR COMMONSENSE GUN VIOLENCE PREVENTION: Yesterday, HRC President Chad Griffin (@ChadHGriffin) joined former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords (@GabbyGiffords) and her husband, retired NASA astronaut Captain Mark Kelly (@ShuttleCDRKelly), to launch the 2016 Vocal Majority Tour, a 14-state, six week national bus tour to rally the vocal majority of Americans who support commonsense gun violence prevention laws, and urge them to vote. “Stopping gun violence takes courage, courage to do what’s right,” Giffords said. Griffin also addressed the crowd and hosted a roundtable later in the day. “The 49 LGBTQ people and allies who lost their lives in Orlando nearly four months ago were brothers and sisters, sons and daughters, friends and neighbors, husbands and wives. CLINTON ON NC’s HB2 — “THE AMERICAN DREAM IS BIG ENOUGH FOR EVERYBODY”: At a rally yesterday in Raleigh, Hillary Clinton took a strong, principled stand against North Carolina’s discriminatory HB2 law, and highlighted the imperative for equality-minded voters to get to the polls in November and make their voices heard up and down the ballot. “Think about everything that’s at stake in this election — right here in North Carolina,” Clinton said. “The very mean-spirited, wrongheaded decision by your legislature and governor to pass and sign House Bill 2 has hurt this state. But more than that — it has hurt people. It has sent a message to so many people that you’re not really wanted you’re not really part of us. I think the American Dream is big enough for everybody.”

PAT MCCRORY BLAMES EVERYONE BUT HIMSELF FOR HIS DISASTROUS HB2 LAW: A new online ad from Roy Cooper, McCrory’s opponent this fall, features video clips of the governor pointing fingers at a veritable who’s who of organizations, entertainers, sports leagues and others for the terrible price North Carolina is paying as a result of the anti-LGBTQ HB2 law. “Governor, it’s time to take responsibility,” the ad says. “Repeal HB2.”
WHAT WE’RE READING WEDNESDAY: How about a banned book? It’s #BannedBookWeek and, in a disturbing trend this year, nearly half of the most frequently banned books have LGBTQ themes, according to the American Library Association. With fantastic options including I Am Jazz and Fun Home, maybe it’s time to consider the insidious reasons these books are permanently shelved and then cozy up with a copy. More from Pink News.
TEXAS ASSOCIATION OF BUSINESS CONDEMNS ANTI-LGBTQ LEGISLATION: Last week, the Texas Association of Business (TAB) formally condemned anti-LGBTQ legislation, including measures that would deny transgender people access to appropriate restrooms. The association opposes “legislation that is seen as discriminatory and would impact workforce recruitment and/or cause a negative economic impact on the state,” TAB President Chris Wallace told The Texas Observer. “We don’t want economic fallout here because of legislative action that could be prevented. We know it’s going to be a top issue, and because of that, business has to speak up.” More from HRC.
