WE MUST DEMAND JUSTICE FOR GEORGE FLOYD: More from HRC.

We as a nation are continuously traumatized by these horrific incidents of abuse that all too often result in the deaths of Black men. This cannot continue. We must all demand answers, we must all demand accountability, and we must all demand change. t.co/oLO0TSaE2G

CHRISTIAN COOPER DESERVES BETTER — THE RACISM HE EXPERIENCED SPOTLIGHTS AN ONGOING MISTREATMENT OF MEN OF COLOR IN THIS COUNTRY: More from The Advocate and HRC.

This is absolutely unacceptable, infuriating and unfortunately reflective of how men of color are often treated. The only reason Christian Cooper was treated this way is because of his skin color. This must stop & we should all be invested in stopping it. t.co/60qWkFbTmL

HRC ENDORSES GOV. STEVE BULLOCK FOR U.S. SENATE: “We need a champion like Steve Bullock in the United States Senate to help ensure every person in our country is free to live their lives free from discrimination based on who they are or who they love,” said HRC President Alphonso David (@AlphonsoDavid). “From the Equality Act to preserving and improving affordable health care, we need Steve Bullock’s leadership in the Senate.” More from HRC.

WHAT WE’RE READING WEDNESDAY — VICE SPOTLIGHTS THE DISPROPORTIONATE IMPACT OF THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC ON THE BLACK LGBTQ COMMUNITY: A recent report from the Human Rights Campaign notes that LGBTQ people of color are more likely than their white counterparts to have become unemployed, with 22% of LGBTQ people being laid off compared to 14% of white LGBTQ people and 13% of the general population. More from Vice.

LGBTQ YOUTH MENTAL HEALTH DURING COVID-19: HRC has seen how LGBTQ youth are especially at risk of struggling with mental health given stressors such as unsupportive families, hostile school conditions, bullying from peers and a lack of adequate resources. To be clear — mental health disparities for LGBTQ youth have nothing to do with being LGBTQ and everything to do with how society treats the community. More from The New York Times.

  • This Mental Health Awareness Month and beyond, HRC has been providing resources for LGBTQ youth and the LGBTQ community to help people find support and to better weather the challenges they are facing.

HRC CALLS ON THE U.S. SENATE TO OPPOSE THE NOMINATION OF CORY WILSON: “Cory Wilson is yet another extreme, right wing judge being advanced by the Trump-Pence administration,” said HRC President Alphonso David. “Wilson has made a career of attacking the most vulnerable Mississipians — from supporting a discriminatory law that allows businesses to refuse services to LGBTQ people to opposing the Affordable Care Act.  The Senate Judiciary Committee should not advance the nomination of Cory Wilson.” More from HRC.

LGBTQ HEALTH CARE PROFESSIONALS COULD BE AFFECTED BY SUPREME COURT DECISION ON TITLE VII: “Like all health care providers, LGBTQ people are standing up to personal and professional challenges in this pandemic. They are risking their lives and lives of their loved ones so patients get care they need and deserve,” said Hector Vargas, executive director of GLMA: Health Professionals Advancing LGBTQ Equality. “It’s unacceptable that they are providing care today and face potential dismissal tomorrow.” More from USA Today.

  • The Supreme Court’s decision could effectively decide whether to solidify or take away non-discrimination protections for LGBTQ people under federal civil rights laws — which prohibit sex discrimination in contexts ranging from employment to housing, healthcare and education.
