ICYMI — HRC PRESIDENT JOINED BLACK ENTERPRISE MAGAZINE FOR A DISCUSSION ON THE IMPACT OF COVID-19 ON THE BLACK COMMUNITY: In the conversation with David, Native Son Founder Emil Wilbekin (@EmilWilbekin) and Black Enterprise’s Selena Hill (@MsSelenaHill), David (@AlphonsoDavid) said: “Demographic data will highlight the truth… The reason why people don’t want to release the data is that it will reflect the truth. People of color are disproportionately impacted by this virus. It illuminates a legacy of bias in our health care system… The LGBTQ community is more vulnerable to contracting the virus for both economic and health reasons. 17% lack health care. 1 in 5 LGBTQ people have not seen a doctor when they needed to because they couldn’t afford it. 1 in 5 LGBTQ people live in poverty.” Watch the full interview here.
- Last month, HRC joined Native Son and Color of Change in advocating for the release of demographic data on COVID-19. Sign the petition here, and learn more about HRC’s response to COVID-19 here.
