HRC PRESIDENT ALPHONSO DAVID WRITES FOR THE ADVOCATE ON WHY WE MUST ELECT JOE BIDEN: “In the years since the Obama-Biden administration left office, we have witnessed cruel attacks on the rights and dignity of LGBTQ people, especially our transgender siblings, by the current occupant of the White House,” writes David. “The LGBTQ community, and millions more across our country, cannot afford four more years of Donald Trump and Mike Pence. HRC MOURNS HELLE JAE O’REGAN, TRANS WOMAN KILLED IN SAN ANTONIO LAST WEEK: “For the past several weeks, we have learned of the violent deaths of transgender Americans at a rate that should be a shock and horror to every single person. We must all ask ourselves: ‘What am I doing to ensure a world where a person’s gender identity is not a potential death sentence?’” said HRC Director of Community Engagement for the Transgender Justice Initiative Tori Cooper (@MsToriCooper1). “The Human Rights Campaign stands with Helle’s family and friends in mourning. Her death further underscores the dire and urgent need to end violence and discrimination against transgender people — and especially against transgender women — now.” Read more from HRC.

SOUTH CAROLINA LESBIAN COUPLE’S LAWSUIT AGAINST DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES MOVES FORWARD: The couple is challenging a federal waiver of a requirement that foster and adoption agencies accepting government funds may not discriminate on the basis of religion. The South Carolina agency argues they should not have to work with people who do not share their religious beliefs, even when they’re providing taxpayer-funded services, including people who are not evangelical Christians, who are single parents or who are same-sex couples.
