HRC AND PARTNERS SPEAK OUT AGAINST TRUMP-PENCE UNCONSTITUTIONAL BAN ON TRANSGENDER SERVICE MEMBERS: Yesterday, just two days before Donald Trump and Mike Pence’s transgender troop ban goes into effect, HRC joined movement partners at the “Fight The Ban Against Open and Equal Military Service Rally” on Capitol Hill. HRC Press Secretary Charlotte Clymer (@cmcylmer) spoke alongside currently-serving trans service members, advocates and members of congress. Watch Clymer’s speech here.

“I carried caskets in Arlington Cemetery. I folded American flags for loved ones..I never knew their religion or education or birthplace…No one asked if those we buried were secretly trans. It didn’t matter then, and it certainly doesn’t matter now.”-@cmclymer #TransMilitaryBan pic.twitter.com/Oni4YId12Y

IN WASHPOST — HRC PRESIDENT CHAD GRIFFIN CALLS OUT TRUMP-PENCE ADMIN FOR SILENCE ON BRUNEI’S DRACONIAN LAW TARGETING LGBTQ PEOPLE: “This week, Brunei has begun implementing a draconian new law that, among other brutal punishments, imposes the death penalty for LGBTQ sex and adultery,” writes Griffin (@ChadHGriffin) for The Washington Post. “Around the world, governments, international institutions, human rights organizations, celebrities and many others have spoken with one voice to condemn the new penal code that violates international human rights standards and imposes one of the most heinous of punishments — death by stoning. Yet in the face of this crisis, the White House has remained unconscionably silent.” More from WaPo.

  • Meanwhile, the administration is attacking immigrants who may be escaping countries with anti-LGBTQ laws. A bill introduced yesterday would curb these shameful attacks on immigrants, especially Muslim immigrants. More from Newsweek and HelloGiggles.

More from The Hill, Newsweek and Talking Points Memo.

.@RepBonamici to Sec. DeVos: When you rolled back guidance protecting rights of transgender students, did you know that the stress of harassment and discrimination can lead to lower attendance/grades as well as depression for transgender students?

Sec. DeVos: I do know that… pic.twitter.com/KhzISXJayf
