HRC Announces U.S. Senator Cory Booker Will Speak at the 2019 HRC Los Angeles Dinner
HRC announced that U.S. Senator Cory Booker (D-NJ), one of the many pro-equality champions running for the White House in 2020, will speak at the 2019 HRC Los Angeles Dinner next Saturday, March 30, 2019. As previously announced, six-time Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter Christina Aguilera with be honored with the HRC Ally for Equality Award at the event, and Emmy Award-winning actor, producer and LGBTQ advocate Yeardley Smith will be honored with the HRC National Leadership Award. Celebrated artists Betty Who and Shea Diamond will both perform, as well as comedian Dana Goldberg.
“Senator Cory Booker is a long-time friend and champion of our community whose leadership on LGBTQ rights and commitment to social justice has helped advance equality in New Jersey and across America,” said HRC President Chad Griffin. “As a lead co-sponsor of the Equality Act, which will extend crucial non-discrimination protections to millions of LGBTQ people across the country, Senator Booker has demonstrated a steadfast commitment to our community and we are honored to welcome him to one of our most crucial events of the year.”
Senator Booker is a champion of LGBTQ equality who has consistently earned a perfect 100 percent on the HRC Congressional Scorecard throughout his time in the Senate. A long-time friend and supporter of HRC, he gave a passionate speech to a crowd of over 3,000 at the 2012 HRC National Dinner in Washington, DC, and spoke at the HRC Greater NY Gala in 2013 and 2015. Sen. Booker joined with other pro-equality lawmakers this month to reintroduce the Equality Act in Congress. The measure has unprecedented support from nearly 70 percent of Americans, more than 280 members of Congress, 170 major businesses and 300 statewide and national organizations.
