As I move into more storytelling with my photography I feel it is important for me to share my own story.
My name is Louis, I go by Kengi. I recently turned 50 years old. I’m a native to Los Angeles, born and raised in beautiful Santa Monica and educated at USC.
I survived 29 months of homelessness, I’m a multiple time cancer survivor. I’m gay and HIV positive.
I’m a freelance photographer with 8 magazine covers to my credit. I’m an activist and I think a damn cool guy.
In April I’m presenting my 12 year photography project My Life Through My Lens at a national LGBT conference in Washington DC. This was the first time I’ve ever written an abstract for my community work and photography I created 12 years ago when I was homeless.
It centers around homelessness, poverty, HIV, AIDS, housing, LGBT, and women’s rights. I’m incredibly proud of this work.
So far I’ve raised over $1100 towards the $4000 needed to make it to DC. This includes travel for me and my co-author, airfare, hotel stay, conference registration and meals.
