FINALLY — HHS ANNOUNCES CO-CHAIR OF PRESIDENTIAL ADVISORY COUNCIL ON HIV/AIDS: In January, the Trump-Pence administration fired the Presidential Advisory Council on HIV/AIDS (PACHA) and refused to appoint new members until yesterday. For more than 22 years, PACHA has worked under both Democratic and Republican Administrations to ensure Americans affected by this illness have a voice in our government. Last year, six members resigned over the Trump Administration’s complacency in fighting the HIV epidemic.
GOP “BUDGET EXPERT” HAS HISTORY OF ANTI-LGBTQ ACTIVISM: Politico reports that the House postponed a hearing scheduled for yesterday on the minimum wage “after homophobic and sexist blog posts surfaced that were penned by one of the Republican witnesses, San Diego State University economist Joseph Sabia.” Sabia in the posts perpetuated lies tying being LGBTQ to being a public health risk. INHUMANE — HRC CRITIQUES TRUMP-PENCE PROPOSAL TO BLOCK VULNERABLE PEOPLE FROM U.S. IMMIGRATION: This week, HRC submitted comments opposing a shameful proposed “public charge” rule from the Department of Homeland Security that would make it much more difficult for certain vulnerable immigrant populations to move through the U.S. immigration system. This is yet another cruel attempt by the administration to exclude as many people from the U.S. as possible and harming some of the most vulnerable people. More from HRC.
