ICYMI — SENATE CONFIRMS TRUMP-PENCE ANTI-EQUALITY NOMINEES TO KEY POSITIONS: The Senate confirmed anti-equality Mark Norris to be the U.S. District Judge for the Western District of Tennessee and Eric Dreiband to be the Assistant Attorney General for the Civil Rights Division of the U.S. Department of Justice. INSIDE THE FIGHT TO PROTECT TRANS RIGHTS IN MASSACHUSETTS: On Nov. 6, Massachusetts voters will decide the fate of a non-discrimination law that protects transgender people in public spaces. Republican Gov. Charlie Baker signed the non-discrimination bill into law in July 2016, and it went into effect in October 2016. Opponents of equality used anti-transgender tactics and messages to get Question 3, which would repeal these non-discrimination protections, on the ballot this election. More from Keen News Service.
YESTERDAY WAS NATIONAL LATINX HIV & AIDS AWARENESS DAY: According to alarming data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Latinx people accounted for 25 percent of all new HIV diagnoses in 2015, its most recent data. The CDC also noted a troubling trend — that HIV “diagnoses increased among Hispanic/Latino gay and bisexual men from 2010 to 2014.” More from HRC and The Body.
