Don’t miss GLAAD’s panel, #SpiritDay lounge with special guests at New York Comic Con!
This week, GLAAD is at New York Comic Con, presenting a panel with BOOM! Studios, and a full two-day #SpiritDay Lounge. These events are not to be missed for those attending NYCC!
Thursday is the “Entertainment is LGBTQ” panel. BOOM! Studios and GLAAD present an in-depth roundtable discussion about LGBTQ representation in pop culture and the path forward to a brighter, more inclusive future, with special guests including Marguerite Bennett (Writer, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers), Phil Jimenez (Artist, Wonder Woman), Andy Mientus (CW’s The Flash; The Backstagers and The Ghost Light), Lilah Sturges (Writer, Lumberjanes: The Infernal Compass), Vita Ayala (Marvel Knights) and Megan Townsend (Director of Entertainment Research & Analysis, GLAAD). Moderated by Steve Foxe (Paste Magazine). Be sure to follow our Instagram as Megan takes over our stories for the day!
“Entertainment is LGBTQ” is Thursday October 4, at 12:30-1:30pm in Room 1A21 at the Javits Center.
All day Thursday and Friday, GLAAD will be at NYCC’s Queer Lounge with our #SpiritDay Lounge. On October 18, 2018, millions will wear purple on Spirit Day in a stand against bullying and in support of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) youth. By signing the Spirit Day pledge and going purple on Spirit Day, you can be a superhero too and show your support for LGBTQ young people and take a stand against bullying.
Stop by the GLAAD Spirit Day Lounge on October 4 and 5 to get your Spirit Day photo taken, meet our celebrity guests, enter our cosplay competition for prizes, pick up your Spirit Day gear and more! And don’t forget to sign the Spirit Day pledge. The #SpiritDay Lounge is Thursday October 4 and Friday October 5, from 10am-6pm in Room 1E01 at the Javits Center.
Events at the Lounge include a Johnson & Johnson Spirit Day Photo Booth, where you can take a photo for a good cause! Stop by any time to the #SpiritDay photo booth sponsored by Johnson & Johnson. For each photo taken, GLAAD will receive $1 toward our work to accelerate acceptance for LGBTQ people. The Photo Booth is running on Thursday October 4 and Friday October 5, from 10am-6pm.
There will also be Cosplay #SpiritDay Red Carpet. Come show your Cosplay spirit at the GLAAD #SpiritDay Lounge! #SpiritDay is GLAAD’s global anti-bullying campaign on October 18th. Give bullies the boot! Step on to the red carpet and take a #SpiritDay photo in your best cosplay! The red carpet will be open all day and free gift will be given to all our cosplay Superheroes during our Official Cosplay Red Carpet Hours! The Cosplay Red Carpet hours are Thursday October 4 from 12-2pm and Friday October 5 from 11am-1pm.
Also on Thursday afternoon, meet Andy Mientus from CW’s The Flash, the NBC musical drama Smash, and author of the new The Backstagers and The Ghost Light. Andy will be signing and giving away copies of his new book in support of GLAAD’s #SpiritDay campaign. The Andy Mientus Meet & Greet and Book Signing will be Thursday October 4 from 2-3pm.
There will be a Wynonna Earp Fan Meetup later on in the evening! Come and connect with your fellow fans, talk about your favorite moments from the series so far, your theories on what is coming in season four, and make new friendships with other #Earpers. Enter the raffle to win a signed script from the cast of Wynonna Earp! The Wynonna Earp Fan Meetup will be Thursday October 4 from 4-5:30pm.
On Friday in the Lounge, don’t miss your chance for a photo-op with Kat Graham from The Vampire Diaries. Meet Kat Graham from The CW’s The Vampire Diaries and her hit music video “Put Your Graffiti on Me.” Grab a photo with Kat on our #SpiritDay Red Carpet and show your support for LGBTQ youth with our favorite witch, Bonnie Bennett.The Kat Graham Photo-Op is Friday October 5, from 1:45pm-3pm.
Also on Friday is an opportunity to meet WWE Superstars and Show Your Spirit for Spirit Day! Come meet the incredible WWE Total Diva Superstars, Sonya DeVille, Mandy Rose, and Paige with a special appearance by WWE Superstar and the Balor Club for Everyone icon, Finn Balor! Stop by and grab a photo to celebrate Spirit Day with the real life super heroes standing up for LGBTQ youth. The WWE Meetup is Friday October 5, from 3:30-5:30pm.
