By showing up for Advocacy Day, you can amplify your voice on issues like employment, public accommodations, housing, education, so-called “ex-gay conversion therapy,” healthcare, and more. Not used to speaking with lawmakers about these issues? Not a problem. Advocacy Day will kick off with an orientation that gives you the tools you need to make change. In the meantime, you can check out the fully advocacy platform.
The New York LGBTQI Advocacy Coalition states as the top of its legislative platform:
We are people advocating across the state for the fundamental human rights that every Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer or Questioning, and Intersex (LGBTQI) New Yorker deserves. New York State has served as a beacon of hope and liberty for many individuals whose existence and expression has been historically and presently oppressed. However, archaic laws and destructive policies permit prejudice and violence in our state, making New York no exception to the progressive changes necessary to improve the health and wellbeing of all LGBTQI people. The dedicated organizations that make up our coalition call on the New York State Legislature and Governor Andrew Cuomo to pass the legislative proposals outlined in this platform as an essential step towards true equality.
Showing up and educating lawmakers on the LGBTQ community’s needs is necessary for protecting everyone from discrimination and accelerating full acceptance for all. Click here to register and stand up for LGBTQI equality.
GLAAD and Equality New York are proud partners in the Together movement, a call for vulnerable communities to explore their intersecting identities and work together to create a more inclusive culture and achieve collective liberation.
